Q: Are these big enough for adult cats to strech and scratch please?

yes my cat is adult female 5 years old. She scratches each side and lays on her back in the middle. The cat nap makes them play with the item as a game. As the cat is the picture scratches, do does my cat. They just need to scratch the claws in the same way they would do with a fence post or lumps of wood in the garden. Better this than your furniture or doors.

Hi there -Wish we could provide a one-size fits all answer, but a lot of this depends on the size of the cat and their scratching style/preferences. If you're not sure yet whether your cat prefers vertical (i.e. - a scratching post) vs. horizontal (i.e. - a scratching pad or board) scratching, I would start there by observing surfaces that they naturally scratch. If you already notice vertical scratching, either on a post or other objects, try to keep an eye on how high up they're reaching and then compare that to the height of the two sizes: standard size (16") and large size (21"). Or, if you want to take the safer route, choosing the large will both protect you against it being too small and also provide a longer life-span with more scratching surface area.Hope this helps!

Q: Does it stay stable when the cats scratch it , not fall over? Also which size is better for a standard to large cat?

It is very stable even when my kittens jump on it but it does slide on the wood and tiled floors when they attack it with force. My kittens love it and the smaller size has been good for them. It has stood up well to their scratching. I think the larger size would be better for a large adult cat.

It is quite robust. I've got mine on a mat- don't know if that makes a difference. I bought it in November 2018 and my cat ( also small) loves it and uses it all the time. She jumps on it and scratches away merrily. It doesn't move. She also likes to hide in the middle. I will eventually have to replace it as it's made of cardboard but certainly a brilliant buy and it has saved her scratching up the furniture etc.
