Q: how far off the ground does it sit?

This chair is aprx 18" from solid surface to seat. Mobility issues such as mine (arthritic knees) did not handle being able to lower myself down to the seat, another 6" would make this chair much more manageable.

Q: Do the legs sink into the ground? I'm 245 lbs and use these primarily on grass turf for athletic fields.

Yes. It will sink in depending on the ground. I weigh 235 and have no problems when I take it to soccer games, but the ground is not wet. I think it would definitely sink if you sit on an area where the dirt is soft.

Q: Why a-blue, a-green and a-red are so much cheaper? are they the same quality and look?

If you check closely, the red and the blue chair that sells for 12.99, is sold by another company.Also compare them to the black chair sold by Travelchair. The black is a much sturdier and stonger made chair.You defentlly get what you pay for. I purchased the black and I am very satisfied!I've used this chair many times, it is comfortable, just sit with the seat as a triangle shape, and have the smallest point to the front.

Q: What are the dimensions of this seat when folded up?

Sorry I can't answer that one precisely. It's in NY and we're in FL. Roughly, I would say it's about 4"X4"X16" when folded, andd very light and sturdy. It worked well for our purposes.
