Going on a cruise and trying to learn a bit of Portuguese. So far so good. Fun and useful!

Everyone knows how to use playing cards, and the folks at Lingo capitalized on this to create a fun way to pick up common words and phrases in a language not your own. This pack is for Brazilian Portuguese, and I found it helpful in learning enough to communicate with a shop owner from Brazil who lives and works in our community (she speaks English very well, so she helped me as I stumbled through my greeting in her native tongue). Most importantly, though: she very much appreciated my efforts to speak her language. So, look at the selection of languages offered by Lingo, pick one that interests you, and begin your own journey of discovery without ever having to leave home!

I had ordered these for my daughter, who is lucky enough to have a mom and dad that speak Portuguese. She's 6 and has listened to Portuguese since she was born, but the introduction of school and YouTube, she struggles to understand at times. This is just something that we would be able to do with her to help her hear and see the words. She has enjoyed us playing different card games using these and then using it as an opportunity to review words on each card touched. Fun and easy way to exposure her to written Portuguese along with the spoken. The cards themselves are thick and printed cleanly. They are a full set of cards, and the words are those that are very common words, which allows you to pick up some words. One thing that they do not have on the cards, is the actual pronunciation, which you need to understand the Portuguese alphabet to be able to pronounce many of the words or expressions correctly.

great playing cards - nice coated, sturdy cards that will hold up well, if like our family, there is eating and drinking involved in card playing. The added little bonus is the vocab lesson you get while playing a card game - so much fun!

These are nice playing cards and are fun if you want to learn a little Portuguese (or English if you speak Portuguese). I got them because we have a trip to Portugal planned. You won't, however, get very far with the language.So if you like playing cards and want to learn a little Portuguese, these cards may be for you.

This is a good deck of cards, and I love the concept of learning while playing. I do find the font choices a bit unfortunate though because I think they may hinder the learning process. Plus, having the Portuguese letters in all-caps seems counterproductive to me. The physical quality of the deck feels solid. Overall, this is a great concept and I think the cards are worth investing in.

These cards are great. You can try and learn Portuguese while playing cards. Although it did slow down game play at first, it is fun. The card numbers are a little small.
