Finally, a slicker brush that is correctly designed, works, and pet approved!!
Finally.Slicker brushes have been around a very long time. There are many brands, many styles, and many failures. There are many copies of the slicker brush and some do terribly, and only a few slicker brushes actually do the job right (correctly, that is) without hurting your pet. This is that rare one of them good ones here on Amazon (or anywhere). I scoured the whole site (and local stores) and came across this one; and this is my 5-star review. What are the components of a "Proper" slicker brush?1. Look at those metal tines! Isn't it gonna hurt? You bet! A lot of those imitation brushes have bare-metal tips that hurt your pet on the first stroke. This brush has coated tips that's very smooth on your skin. Yes, I tested on my own skin, the coated tip is very smooth. That's the proper design.2. A spongy bed that the metal tines rest on. The spongy bed is designed to move as you brush following the curvature of your pet's coat and skin. It is designed like a massage apparatus such that as you brush, the brush gives when needed. Otherwise, imagine a stiff, ungiving brush that forces metal tines into your pet. Right? This brush (the metal tines) all give and retracts. All right! So say I was brushing the broad side of my cat (oh yeah, he is one big bubba!) and I come across his thigh bone, the spongy bed will absorb that and retract to accommodate the curvature, instead of digging the metal sharps into the skin or that thigh. You see what I mean?3. It's wide. It's probably the widest (or among the widest) brush out there. Why wider? More effective? Faster? Yes, all true. But you may not know this: Wider = Force Distribution. You know how in the Circus you see them artists laying on a bed of knives, or pins? Weight distribution. A single blade will penetrate the body but if the weight is distributed over a thousand blades, you can lay on it like a bed. Likewise, the wider the brush, the better force distribution so that each portion of the brush (to each tine) is less forceful. For the same brush stroke, if the brush is half the size, it will experience twice the force delivered to the pet. Vice versa, if the brush is twice the size, each tine is half the force for the same brush stroke. It's physics. It's math. And it works beautifully as the result.Combining the wide brush head, the spongy pad, and the coated metal tips, WOW. I've got cats who will not tolerate any other slicker brush accepting this one. Wow.Do me this favor: Do a head test. That's right. Take your slicker brush and brush your own head (hair). If it feels prickly, stingy, .. that's how your pet feels. If you don't like it, neither will your pet.Trust me, this is probably the best slicker brush there is and not based on bias, or cat test, or anything -- but it's based on all the correct design as mentioned above AND the fact that Bubba the Cat has spoken and gave his seal of approval. 5 Paws Up!

Love Love Love Love it. So does my cat.
This is a great brush. I have 2 cats, neither is a long hair but they have thick fur and they shed a LOT so brushing them is essential. One of them won't let me brush her. She's assigned my wife as designated brusher, but my other kitty lets me brush her, and she'd usually bite me or start to complain after a few brushes. With this brush, it was completely different. With the plastic pads at the end of the brush she actually purred when I brushed her and she didn't bite me at all. The softer pads make a huge difference against her skin, and I didn't think I had a heavy hand with the regular wire brush, but apparently I did.If you need to do heavy brushing, this one will take longer. It doesn't remove fur as effectively, but that's a small price to pay for making my kitty more comfortable. I've ordered a 2nd one for my 2nd cat so that each Brush will only smell of that kitty. This is also harder to clean because of the plastic tabs, but I give it my highest recommendation because it's easier on the Cat's skin. 6 stars. It's also a little smaller than I thought it would be, the bristle part is about 3 1/2 inches end to end, more than big enough for a cat. You might want a larger size for a medium sized dog or bigger.

Finally a brush that my dog loves.
LOVE IT! I've been showing dogs for 50+ years. Currently working a Belgian Malinois who hates to be brushed. I started working with him as a 9 week old getting him used to the brush, nothing helped. He did learn to stand still while I worked on his coat, but clearly didn't like it. I've had coated dogs before, but none shed like this guy, so he requires daily brushing, an unpleasant task for both of us. Saw this in a friend's tack box and thought I'd give it a try. OMG, its totally fabulous! I put him on the table, he got all tensed up ready to be tortured, and I started with this brush, he looked back at me like "that's not bad"! After a few minutes he was totally relaxing. I have hope that our daily brushings might even become a pleasant experience. I'm so impressed that I'm buying two more for other Malinois owners. Great brush, pretty bamboo wood, curve sits nicely in my hand, pins are a good length to get into and pull out undercoat, and the tips of the pins are coated in tiny balls of plastic so they don't jab into the dog. Great product. Give it a try.

Doesn't scratch or prick skin--the pets' or mine!
This is the best brush I have ever purchased for a dog and/ or cat. My eleven year old shepherd mix has never liked being brushed. Now I understand why. This amazing slicker doesn't scratch or prick skin, hers or mine! Because it feels good, I am able to spend more timegrooming her longish double coat with long pantaloons and tail fur. An unexpected benefit of this brush is that my medium long coated tuxedo cat begs to be brushed when I groom the dog. The cat rolls on his back and from side to side to be sure that I cover the entire cat, with special attention to ears and face. He even takes the brush into his own paws to continue face brushing on his own. The result of all this cat grooming is fewer fur balls! When I ordered the Petbyrn slicker, I thought it was expensive, but the guarantee and the enthusiastic reviews convinced me to try it.The brush is beautifully made and designed. I have thrown away my old brushes, and apologized to my dog for subjecting her to years of needless discomfort!
