Fly me to the Moon
A lovely kit. I've finished it now. Looks great. Tricky for an inexperienced modeller perhaps, but worth the effort.

Spent more time painting it than assembling it!
This is a pretty complex kit. It's taken me about 4 months work and I am still trying to finish it.There is an awful lot of painting involved! And the painting instructions are often unclear. The diagrams have arrows to indicate which colour to paint a part, but often the arrows just vaguely point in the direction of the part so you have to guess which bit they are referring to. Some parts have no painting information at all , as if the author of the instruction guide had forgotten to include it. So you have to use your best guess.Painting itself it tricky. The surface of the plastic is shiny and paint won't stick, but tends to run off. The eventual solution was to wash and scrub each part first, to remove the surface shine and then sand some of it with very light sand paper to give it a surface that paint could stick to. This was a complete nuisance and wasted a lot of time. The 'lid' of the capsule, with the transparent section has to fit over the internal body of the capsule where the crew are seated. But there is so much packed into the section that the lid will not fit over properly. So I'll have to sand it down where bits are sticking out, or just force it to fit and use superglue to hold it in place. The whole thing is ending up as a bit of a bodge job. They tried to make the instructions multilingual but have ended up pleasing no-one.It cost me a lot of money so I'll persist and finish it. If it had been a cheaper kit I would have binned it by now.=========================================================UPDATE: After a marathon effort I have now completed the whole model. The final things that needed doing were attaching it to the white display stand. However the weight of the model is such that the socket under the capsule where the stand plugs into cannot handle the weight and it keeps drooping over. It needed loads of superglue to keep it in place. Had the designers actually tested it themselves? And then came placing the transfers around the body - various pipe outlets and USA flags. Once again the instruction leaflet has vague arrows that kind of point where they should go but many of them are not clear at all. In the end I was left with several transfers where there was no indication where they should be located. So I gave up at that point. To sum up, I think the instruction leaflet is completely inadequate. It shows you the basics then leaves you to it. Part positions are unclear, as are painting instructions and transfer positioning. There is far more preparation required than you might expect. Oh yes, you get paints included in the box, but only for about a quarter of the colours you will need. And the pots are so small that you will need to buy more anyway.A lovely model if you have got time for it (and a fully equipped art studio!) but be aware in advance of the amount of work involved
