Different--and better--than typical photography books.
If you've bought many photography books on how to use a particular piece of gear, you know the drill: Most of the book is filled with "boilerplate" that merely restates all the functions of the equipment. That can be useful, but the problem is that most books seem to stop there. I was pleasantly surprised that the author of this manual actually took the time to give specific advice on various settings to use, and why to set them that way. He was not dogmatically saying "Do this", but instead would offer his opinion, and then explain any exceptions to that recommendation. This is the first such book I've come across that provided this good level of guidance. It's the closest thing to sitting down with a camera expert for several hours and picking his or her brain about how to get the most from your NIkon 610. When you consider that the ebook is just a few bucks, it becomes a no-brainer. Nicely done.

Great, helpful book
I got this after getting a D610 to see if there was more insight than the Nikon manual offered. And, I'm happy to say, there is. I had a Nikon D3200 and the 3rd party DVD I got with it was nothing special. Perhaps it was just a beginner DVD but it just didn't offer much that the manual didn't have. This book has some information about the interplay between different settings such as auto focus and 3D tracking that pointed out things I wish I'd known a year ago when I got the D3200. The author doesn't go over everything in the camera, just the things that really matter to taking pictures. For instance, he doesn't cover the cool virtual level functionality. The author doesn't dwell on what is probably known to the level of user that buys this camera either, such as trying to explain in detail aperture, shutter speed, and ISO. He covers it a bit, but then goes more into comparing those items with various images, how the D610 performance is regarding ISO, and how to control the exposure aspects with the camera modes and settings. I like it.The only thing I wanted more of WAS his insight into what settings he uses and why. I would have also liked more of a comprehensive workflow discussion regarding what settings interact with Nikon Capture NX 2 and how/why you might choose to set the camera up differently if you were going to post process using the Nikon specific software. I know the book wasn't advertised to include such information but I'd like to have that type of info from somewhere. In fairness he mentions Capture, but it's included with Adobe. I use Adobe PS, LR, and Elements along with Capture so it's okay.Overall, great book, I got info from it that I didn't previously know about Nikon cameras, made me more familiar with the D610 and its hundreds of settings, and for the $10 or so you can't go wrong.

A Well Written Guide to the Nikon D610
This book is much easier to read than the very thorough users manual that comes with the Nikon D610. The book is well organized and each feature of the camera is explained using clear text along with sufficient pictures and graphics to make comprehension easy. The Nikon D610 has a LOT of features. It would be easy for the feature-rich camera to be daunting to understand. The author does an excellent job of breaking the camera down into easily grasped pieces. If you have already purchased the camera when you buy the book then be sure to have the camera close at hand so you can touch and click and make each feature come to life.

Very worthwhile!
I wasn't familiar with Klostermann's books, but it was the first one out, and I was looking for the deltas from the D7000. I found it refreshing and very helpful. His style is easily readable, and I had a difficult time "putting it down" (or the eBook equivalent). I found myself re-reading a lot of what I already knew, as well, and picked up some valuable tips & insights. I had it open, when I dialed in my D610 last weekend, with the old camera next it. Having both as a reference, speeded up this new camera experience, and got me out shooting much sooner than I'd expected. Good value.

Excellent Book
For me, this book has exactly the right amount and kind of information about the D610 that I was looking for. As an owner of the D300, I already had a pretty good understanding of Nikon SLR cameras, and what I needed was a book that would make the transition to the D610 quick and easy and this did it. It is well written, concise (which works for me) but provides enough detail to easily understand all dials, buttons, menus and functions when you need it. As an ebook it is easy to carry around on a tablet for instant reference when I am in the field. I also appreciate Doug's responsiveness to questions!!Karl Kimmett

Excellent Book!
Beautiful writing. Packed with information from the photographer's point of view, not from "inside the camera," and that's what I need. Nicely organized, features and approaches are clearly explained, and there are lots of cross-references for the many situations where you need to manage different functions together. Many good links and resources. I wouldn't be giving this book 5 stars if there were anything in it that I didn't find useful. This is the first thing I've read from this author and I am already a Douglas Klostermann fan for life.

Very useful book
The Nikon D610 Experience is an easy to read, very well organized with lot of material that goes beyond the Nikon user manual. It has been for me a great help to de started with my new camera.

A jump start into the D610
This was exactly what I needed to get up to speed with all the possible settings on the D610. Covers all the main features and gives just the right balance of information on what every function does without being overwhelming and boring.Well written and to the point. I feel very confident now in being able to make the most of the camera and the possibilities that it offers. If you're stuck taking photos in full auto, then get this book and learn what you can do with your D610.

Clear and concise
Having started to work my way through Nikon's manual for the D610, I decided to look for a book which was a little more user friendly. Having read the reviews for Douglas Klostermann's book, I decided to try it out. I'm not disappointed. It is set out if a very logical way and find it easy to refer to specific areas of the cameras features. Would recommend the book to any D610 user.

Fantastic book to have in your bag
I have been taking photos as an armature photographer for over forty years. I recently bought the full frame Nikon D610And though the manual is well written I was looking for more in deep information and found it in this book NIKON D610EXPERIENCE.My memory is not all that good anymore and this book is helping me in many ways to have full control of my cameraFor this reason I recommend this book to anybody taking photos with the mentioned camera.

Sound technical coverage but didn't explore the unique approaches with a D610 to areas of photography.
Good technical read but could have done with more on approaches to areas of photography ie architecture, macro, outdoor, black-and-white, flash and natural light portraiture.
