Brian Bedford in the title role.
Brian Bedford. What more do you need to know. I would pay to hear him read the phone book. He made me appreciate the classics. This is a good production read by great actors.

Amazingly funny and true
It is funny and tasteful. Hilarious and very sarcastic. satirical. I can go on and on. You have to read it to realize what i am talking about. It is a play about a cunning man fooling another man by being pious. Throughout the history people treated very well and respected religious people and this book is a great example of it. I can tell you similar things, in different settings, occurred in my childhood where i witnessed these sort of men took advantage of other people. In this story everybody else seemed to know what kind of man Tartuffe is except Orlon but in my real stories everybody seemed to believe more ridiculous situations. such as somebody was so religious and loved by god that he could fly etc. read it. It is great.

Mmm, comedy!
I'm studying this play as a part of a class called "Comedy: Text and Theory". It has the classic comic narrative, which starts at the top, goes down, then comes back up (like the lips of a smiley!). Alazons include some of the main characters, but my favorite, Elmire, is an Eiron. Meaning, Orgon, Pernelle, and Tartuffe are characters that are blocked from or blocking the truth or are deceived/deceiving (Alazon characters). Elmire, Cleante, Dorine, Damis, and Mariane are Eirons, which are the "knowers" of the story; they know everything going on and usually save the day. These two groups interacting create the basis of comic action.I don't know. That probably doesn't make much sense, but if you're into comic theory at all, this goes with Northrop Frye's comic theory. Just wiki him and the terms and it'll make more sense, and make a more "Literary" feel come out of this naturally hilarious work.

A Lively Tale of Religion and Hypocrisy
Tartuffe, a play characterized by hypocrisy, scandal, and intrigue, is an excellent play for the modern era. While the ostensibly pious vagabond, Tartuffe, is exploiting the homeowners who graciously took him in, the only one who can see through his false piety is the housekeeper Dorine. This dynamic exposes the folly of religious hypocrisy and spectacle, and it can translate to the salience of any hypocrite today. Through his usage of humor, Moliere crafts an engaging tale of pious hypocrisy!

Masterful Adaptation of a Masterpiece
The beauty and mastery of Richard Wilbur's quill never ceases to amaze. And Moliere's masterpiece is as current today as it was centuries ago. This along with The Misanthrope, The Learned Ladies and The School for Wives should be on the bookshelf (or on the Kindle...oh, you youngsters and your hi-tech devices) of every student of classical acting.I must admit I am chuckling at some of the "armchair scholars" who are rating this treasure "one star" attacking the play itself. Sorry kids, this is an undisputed classic of Western Literature. As they say, "time will tell" and this has more than stood the test of time. I recently wrote a review of this version in performance, certainly worth checking out. Tartuffe (Broadway Theatre Archive)

Condition- Used
This book came just as I expected, slightly worn from previous use but overall really great quality for the price. Considering it was just a required book for my Humanities class I’m really pleased!

This is the original (not a translation)
It is in French. That is excellent. It is the original. Unfortunately my French is not great and it takes me half an hour to read a page... I will seek a translation and let you know my (humble) opinion 😂

Ok
Ebook privo dei difetti che ogni tanto si riscontrano quando si acquistano classici a poco prezzo. Per il resto, non è che me la senta di recensire Molière :-)

Nice edition
Well laid out with an introduction and letters from Moliere. Missing one star because it would be good to have the footnotes at the foot of the pages, not the end of the chapters.
