More good, slow and steady practice
My daughters have been working their way through the first two boxes and have started on the 3rd box. While the numbered books in the first two boxes gradually get more challenging, I feel that all 12 books in this box are about equally challenging and it is not really necessary to work through them sequentially. The most important factors in this level is that the child is building on the foundational skills and the challenges now being introduced are:* more words in each sentence and on each page* a few more sight words here and there* a few blended consonant words* a bit more punctuationOnce we finished the 2nd box, we jumped into the 3rd box. But even though the content doesn't seem that much more advanced, it posed enough challenge for my daughter that she would get frustrated. I realized we needed to keep practicing the 2nd box while introducing an occasional new book from the 3rd box.I'm grateful that box 3 is not a huge leap to lots of new concepts but rather a gradual practice regime for building up those basic skills. That's just what we needed. Keep building confidence with slow, steady practice, and lots of it!So many other series jump too quickly to the next level and then you're left without enough low-level practice material. That's why BOB books are so great.

A smart start for your 4-5 year old
I have a 4 year old who is in preschool. I wanted to supplement and encourage reading at home. I started with the Bob series. I purchased the first set of Bob books. I like the Bob books because each page had 7-8 word sentences. It's not overwhelming for first readers. I read and underlined with my fingers every word on a page. Then it was my child's turn to read the page. He practiced reading the page over and over. I pulled out the vocabulary words from each page and made 3X5 flash cards. We took a page at a time to review the words. We also practice spelling the word. Then he had to makeup a sentence using the new word. We took our time to read and practice every page. It took 1-2 weeks to complete the first book. Each book set had 3 levels and 5 books per level. I also purchased the BOB Workbooks which are very comprehensive. In today's times parents, grandparents and caregivers are the first line of teachers not the school system.

Do not hesitate!!
If you have a preschooler, kindergartner or even a struggling first grader you will not be sorry you purchase these books! My four yr old told me he wanted to read so we started with set 1 and I have all 5 boxed sets plus the Kindergarten sight words boxed set. Today my preschooler is reading at the same level my first grader was at the beginning of the school year; and my first grader was in the top 3/4 of his class! The books are perfect in every way. The start off using 3 letters a book, one sentence per page and gradually get more complex letter sounds and longer stories. My son WANTS to read and we read twice daily! I taught my now middle schooler how to read at age four also but I know it would've been a lot less stressful (for me) if I would have known about these books. My son practically taught himself to read these books! Just make sure that your child can recognize each letter and knows what sound it makes. We only knew short vowel sounds when we started these, now my son can read words like 'wonderful', 'bright', 'another', 'business' and more! DO NOT HESITATE, buy these for your child; and yourself!!

Bob books are the best!
The media could not be loaded. These sets, starting with set 1, are great for kids learning to read, or those who have a lot of difficulty reading. If you start at the beginning with set 1, each story builds gradually, so gradually that kids will be reading a whole book and wanting another instead of dreading reading. This set comes with two activity books which could be photocopied to use with multiple kids. The activities include matching the correct word, coloring, and drawing.

Lifesaver for Early Readers!
Bob Books have been a lifesaver for my 8-year-old who struggles with reading. The short sentences and repetitive words are a perfect formula for kids learning to read. The simplicity of these books has made a significant difference in my son's reading journey. If you have an early reader at home, these books are a fantastic resource—highly recommended for building confidence and skills!
