Learning Zimbra Server Essentials Paperback – October 31, 2013

So, this was a waste of money. The only thing it is good for, is leaving it on my desk at work, to show management that I'm really trying to learn this. Besides that, don't waste your money. I was hoping for a description of how Zimbra works. Instead, it is just a very terse description of how to install Zimbra. Reading the FREE install manual give more information.So, it will become a nice looking paper weight on my desk, for now. Then, in three years, when I am going though my stacks of techy books, I'll see this book and wonder why I bought the fool thing.

Abdelmonam Kouka has authored a concise and straight-to-the-point guide on how to setup Zimbra. Learning Zimbra Essentials can get you to build a working enterprise Zimbra server in one or two days and in under 120 pages.Now this is not the traditional howto guide which assumes that you know about a few dozen other technologies, the book is self-contained and expects virtually no prior knowledge from the administrator. It saves you all the theory about DNS, SMTP and LDAP operations and guides you straight to how to actually get things to work.The book is also peppered with alerts about the most common configuration mistakes that a beginner could naturally fall into.I was a bit surprised to find out that, in less than 120 pages, Kouka has managed to cover advanced topics like LDAP authentication and complex spam filtering.In a future edition, I think that adding a small appendix about IPTables firewalling and SELinux would bring a great value to the book without inflating its size.
