Shakespeare E-Z Cast Low Profile Reel

I purchased this reel thinking it might be ideal for skipping a worm under piers. It is too sensitive for doing this. As soon as the line slows down any, the spool brakes. It works just fine for regular fishing and the length of the cast is only shortened slightly. It would be a great reel for teaching anyone to cast with a level wind reel. The feature seems to be foolproof. You can turn a kid loose with it and never worry about a birds nest.

It does work as advertised, but casting is limited on distance when in the non backlash mode.

had to return as it's not working properly.it does help, but not 100%.i switched to better brand / more expensive caster... that actually helped more than this one.

Not sure what to say, except that the reel cast something awful. Bought the reel to start learning to use a baitcaster better and eventually move away from a spinning reel. Thought it would be a good stepping stone, but it is more frustrating than a normal baitcaster. Just going to buy the real thing and sell this a garage sale and cut my losses. Thankfully I am decent with a spinning reel.

I actually like this reel. Is it as good as the Abu Garcia Black Max - no, but if you've never used a bait casting reel or if you have someone to teach this maybe a good starting point when ready to progress beyond a spincasting reel. This seems like it would be a great reel for most fishing, and the anti-birdnesting feature really works!

Wish I would have gotten the left hand model. Like every thing else about it . Left hand model is so hard to find.

This is impossible to cast. Don't waste your money.

I've had this Reel for a few years and i think I've mastered the art of casting with it but i realized there is a hidden peak it cannot reach. no matter how hard I cast i could not surpass my maximum distance. I fist found out my first trip after a few hours in with one rod on berkley bait and my second rod with this reel using lures that I could only go so far...so then i tried to use heavier lure to go farther and it didn't go pass my previous cast...what the hell so i decided to be childish and use a full oz lure and cast that MF as far as I could. and omg I saw it mid air! At the peak of its cast it just snags on something internally. She has no signs of wear and is oiled up but just wont cast as far as you possibly could.If you want to fish handicap go ahead but this is not how a product should work.
