Forget traditional cleaning kits, just get this.
Update: I began experiencing some troubles cleaning my .22s. The front of the thick cord began to fray, and I couldn't pull it into the barrel! I contacted the company (Fred) and he immediately send me out a replacement. Really nice guy making some excellent products and delivering outstanding customer service. Given the outstanding manner in which he handled this problem, I immediately purchased another bore snake for my 9mm and spouse's 380. These are truly fantastic products!Previous review: The worst thing about this product is how stupid it makes you feel for not having bought this sooner. Seriously. I suppose there might be something quaint about folding up felt pads and mounting it on rod and getting on with it. But not for me. I have used this thing a few times on several rifles and I've only ever needed a single pass to get an insanely clean barrel.Lately, I haven't event used solvent, I just pass it through dry. Again, the barrel is spotless after a single pass. It takes longer to unwind/unwrap and re-wrap/rewind the 'snake' than it does to pass through (clean) the firearm. I really like the fact it can be unscrewed and separated for cleaning of the snake itself (but I haven't had to do that yet).Pros: AMAZING! Forget traditional cleaning kits, just get this.Cons: You need several of them if you have firearms of many different calibers. But generally, each snake covers several close calibers.Summary: I love this thing and will likely buy one for every caliber I own or acquire.I received absolutely nothing in exchange for this review. I like it, but there's a problem...
Nice quality. The "rope" element is well built, if that makes any sense. Company seems genuinely interested in producing high quality items with reliably high customer satisfaction.Works as advertised, but...the brass brush provides very little contact with the barrel of my .40 (Sig P226). I really don't hear/feel the brush working at all, and there is little resistance when pulling the brush through. I have another cleaning kit (Hoppes) and the .38 brush in that kit makes much better contact, and that's serving as my point of reference. That's the only product improvement I can think of, but to tell the truth it has me thinking twice about getting another one of these for other guns. A 3 star rating seems a little harsh but I'm not willing to give it 4 stars. If the brush worked better it would be a full 5 stars.**Modification to my review: After some thinking for a few hours I've decided to amend my review, changing it from 3 to 5 stars. Let me explain why.Initially I left a 3 star review because of the reason seen above. Within a few hours I was contacted by Fred, from the Sage and Mercantile Co. This is what he had to say:Hello Barry, I'm Fred the owner of Sage & Braker. I noticed your review and wanted to contact you to make sure you're happy with our product. I see that you feel that the brush for the .40 cal is a bit small. I just wanted to give you our specs on it to assure you the size we are using is the correct one. The diameter of the copper brush we use for the .40 cal is 0.45 inches. This extra 0.05 inches allows for the brush to fully come in contact with the bore without being excessive in length which would damage the brushes rigidity. I hope this explains a little about what our thinking was in making this size brush. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to reach out and ask me. (Nice choice in a sidearm by the way, I carry a Sig P220 in the .45) Take care, Fred Bohm // Sage & Braker MercantileWhile I didn't immediately accept his explanation as satisfactory, I realized that as a newbie to the world of handguns I really can't be sure if he's standing on firm ground, or if I am. My experience is very limited. Maybe his product cleans just as well as the brushes that have more "drag" (as part of the Hoppes kit referenced above). Maybe it doesn't. I'm not sure.Another thing that stood out above all else is the communication itself. Not what he said, but that fact that he made the effort to say anything at all. As someone who spends considerable amounts of his professional life thinking about, designing and implementing quality systems for a complicated industry (healthcare) I'm extremely impressed with any company that goes so far in their efforts to satisfy customers. No strong-arming, no bullsh*%, just honest caring about the customer experience. That goes a long way for me, and gives me confidence in the product and the company. A rare double these days, don't you think?Five stars. Well deserved when considering the sum total of my experience in this online purchase. Thanks, Fred.

Superior design as compared to the Hoppes BoreSnake
I own the Hoppes BoreSnake in .38/.357 and 12GA and thought it was the best way to clean the bore until I found the Bore Cleaning Kits by Sage and Braker. The design of this boresnake is far superior to the Hoppes. You can unscrew the brass weight string and brush from the snake itself which makes cleaning the snake easier and better. I recommend the Sage and Braker Bore Cleaning Kits to anyone that needs a quality boresnake. Check out this video on how to use it, [...] While your at it purchase the Sage and Braker CLP, also available from Amazon, to complete your bore cleaning needs.I'd like to note that my Hoppes .38/.357 caliber BoreSnake started to fray/tear after only the first use. Very disappointed with the Hoppes product.
