good book for a beginner
Harriet gives great straightforward directions in how to do some botanical painting. While not super detailed there is sufficient detail to get good results. She also has a You Tube channel that offers similar projects. There are enough projects to keep you busy with a lot paintings and then grow from there.

Very helpful book!
I have several watercolor books and so far this one is my favorite. My picture shows the first three projects in the book that I completed in one night. I’m a newbie to watercolor and I very much appreciate the instructions for larger flowers along with instructions for a smaller version. Following the instructions in the book was the first time I’ve ever been able to paint a rose that I felt looked like a rose. That alone is worth the pace of the book! I would say once you have the basics of watercolor down this book will show you how to paint several flowers and leaves, etc…and even more than one variation of each. I’m very happy with my purchase.

Worth Buying
I have a few watercolor books to use as reminders and references. I love how Harriet goes through steps in both photos and description to teach the flowers. However, the reason I gave it 4 stars is because some of the photos are so small that I can't quite make out what she is doing. Maybe it's my eyesight? :-) But I think it's worth owning if you're newer, or just want to learn and have a reference for the different florals.

Perfect!
New Botanical Painting is a beautiful book. My order was for a used book in good condition. I received a new book, signed by the author. Filled with contemporary watercolor artworks and more than 30 step-by-step projects...beautifully illustrated; I am excited to learn from the UK's, Harriet De Winton. Would definitely recommend her book.

Great Book for Beginners
This books comes in two versions. Based on the some of the negative reviews they never took the opportunity to read why and bought them both. The blue book is the UK version and the white book is the US version. Both are identical in a lot of ways. Some of the lingo my be different from UK to the US version. A lot of people get into these types of crafts expecting a book to be able to turn them Into what they see on TV or paper. Understand it takes a lot of practice and trial and error but you’ll get there. Don’t give up! Practice makes perfect! Also, invest in the right material. Buying paints that are not ideal for watercolors, brushes or paper will not bring out your work. It can be an expensive hobby but can be done on a budget with quality material at a fraction on the cost. I have nothing against Michael’s, Joann Fabric or Hobby Lobby but these stores don’t carry the type of materal artist use. I would recommend finding an art store near you. The best with supplies will be near colleges and art districts. Here you can ask questions, get guidance and even classes. Remember this is not suppose to be stressful but a relaxing time. I hope my review was able to be helpful. Happy watercolor painting everyone.
