Because the quality of the product has been degraded. I don't know the history of the company. For all I know it's been bought and sold numerous times, but what I do know is that this is not the quality product it was back in 1997.What's the difference? Well, the thickness of the plastic has been reduced which means the rigidity has decreased, which means it deforms under lateral pressure when the 1997 models wouldn't. Worse, the threading on the lid is so poorly cut, you can't properly close the container. By comparison, the 1997 model can be easily spun open or closed. It was really well made.Yet again, another example of a company placing profit above their customers and our planetary resources.
