EvansDrum Heads - G1 Coated Tom Drumhead, 10 Inch

I ordered Evans G1 coated heads for the batter side and G1 black heads for the resonant side of the mounted and floor toms on my Sonor Safari kit. I am very pleased with the quality and sound. The drums have just the right amount of resonance without unpleasant overtones with no additional muffling. (Disclosure: I feel that most drummers over muffle their drums and ruin the great sound that the manufacturer built into them and that the drummer paid a lot of money for). What really impressed me was the response. I am a lifetime Remo player and I was worried that changing to the thicker heads would lessen the bounce. Boy was I wrong. This was especially evident on the floor tom where the sticks seem to just bounce back at me. The book is still out on the G1 snare head I bought. It has a better response than the Remo it replaced but it doesn't sound quite as good, especially with brushes. (I am using a Remo resonant head with Gibraltar snares). In fairness, the snare drum is the weakest in the kit and most drummers replace it eventually.

I didn’t put anything for longevity as I’ve not used long. The thing I think I need to convey is that these heads solve an age old problem with heads not sitting well on the bearing edges. These do. Therefore giving you the best from the shells you have. It’s important. I’ve spent a lot of $ on other brands that are too rounded at the rim edge of the head, therefor making it hard for the things to contact well all the way around. Not a problem with these! They have a special more vertical edge on the head. Not so rounded. Bam!!!Get em. Try em. I’m writing this for you, not me.I don’t always write these reviews, but in this case… I know I’m gonna be helping people get a better sound from their costly equipment!Have fun!!!

The G1 does what it says it does. Cranking it up gives you tons of overtones and a nice crack that you can control with your choice of muffling.

Love the G1. Excellent all around head suitable for many styles. They have great warm sound, feel and touch and a natural sustain. These heads put out a tremendous punch with an easily achieved tuning/pitch.

Excellent drumheads!I’ve noticed that the Evans G1 heads(and also their UV-1 heads) , not only sound great , look great but they mysteriously don’t seem to “ look dirty” after extensively playing on them. It’s almost like they stay new looking for a very long time. That’s the first time I’ve experienced a head like that , period.
