Worth the price!
This is the ONLY bird food that does not attract squirrels, and believe me when I say we tried everything to keep our large squirrel population from decimating the bird feeders...all types of expensive bird feeders, baffles, etc. Squirrels won't touch Cole's Hot Meats, but the bird love it! We tried another less-expensive brand of hot bird food & the birds did not like it. That food sat in the feeders for a week, when the birds go through Cole's Hot Meats in a couple days. It's worth the money if you want to attract a large variety of birds & preserve the food for the birds instead of the squirrels.

Bird Watching
I absolutely love feeding the birds—they add so much color and life to our outdoor space. This bird feed has been fantastic! It attracts some of the most beautiful birds, and the best part is that the squirrels stay far away thanks to the spicy blend—they want nothing to do with it. The quality of the seeds is great too; they arrived whole, not crushed, so you really get the full use of the bag. It’s been a win all around!

It Works
This is the only hot birdseed that has kept the squirrels at bay. While it is pricey, it does work.Unfortunately , mixing it with regular birdseed still brings the squirrels out.

Mwah Ha Ha!
The media could not be loaded. I have a birdfeeder with a camera and every 3-4 nights, a raccoon would show up and eat most or all of the seeds. I bought the Hot Meats to deter him. First he doesn't like it, then gets mad and shovels all the seeds out. But that's ok because I haven't seen him since. Then a mouse discovered the seeds. Can you tell the moment he tastes the peppers? He jumped completely off the deck! I laugh every time I watch it. I still get the same number of birds, maybe more because there's no shell. Now if only it deterred Crows!

It's not "one size fits all".
I purchased Cole's HM05 Hot Meats Bird Seed because of its high ratings and hoping to discourage squirrels and a few rats in the area. I enjoy a lovely group of Ring Neck Doves, Mourning Doves and wonderful Blue Jays in my yard. First day, I placed a scoop of Cole's with their usual feed in tray #1. Eventually, I noticed some agitation there. In their second tray #2 was strictly normal feed. No problems there. Next day, in tray #2, all was well, no agitation, no Cole's. In tray #1, I began to notice even worse agitation than the day before. I've read my share of "birds not having a sensitivity to capcasin, etc." I know my birds and something is bothering them badly in the tray containing Cole's. At any rate, my short experience has taught me that lesson. No more of this nasty formula. I felt terrible to have caused them a moment of stress. Never again will I purchase this or anything like it! I have no trouble telling everyone who will listen, this product isn't for all!

Finally something that works...
Been trying various solutions for my birdfeeder to keep the squirrels away, but none worked until I started at the food supply. I mixed Cole's Hot Meats with my regular bird food and the birds LOVE it, but the squirrels does not. They smell it and run away LOL So glad I found something that works. :)

Good stuff
It definitely got rid of the squirrels, but I feel like my bird traffic is down a little from the food I was using previously. Probably just need to give it some time. I will buy more.

Birds love, squirrels avoid
The only thing so far that’s worked to attract birds but NOT squirrels. We do get one small field mouse visitor who doesn’t mind the spice.
