Well written and follows material in EE445M well
The explanations in the book are clear, and the chapter follows the Real-Time embedded operating systems course at UT very well.

It's a good book.Cons first since I am giving only three stars (changed it to 4 since the author really makes an incredible effort to produce a ton of material):1. It is directed towards RTOS. However the RTOS focus is rather lacking.2. All RTOS concepts are explained theoretically. However, there are almost no real complete examples developed.3. The websites (s) supporting the book also don't contain a lot of RTOS support.Recommendation on a new version:Ditch many of the chapters on the ARM concepts. They are all important, but they are already covered in great length in the first two books. I don't see the need to re explain NVIC, UART, USB, GPIO to the great length it is detailed. This is actually pretty good data with many developed projects, and it would be fine to have this if the RTOS focus was more, say at least 3 more chapters detailing an example with tasks, semaphores, you would have to pick a particular RTOS but I think that would be ok, they are all a bit similar. Since RTOS is not fully developed then all the "other" good data seemed to pad the book.Pros:There is a ton of data on everything about the cortex M MCU. I mean a ton of data and fully developed projects for all. You name it, and there is a fully developed project with detailed explanations....

Great Teacher
Great Teacher. Hard to get quality books for learning embedded systems. This one isn't magic by far but is as good as it gets.

great book!
this is a great book on real time operating systems..although very simple, the concepts are explained lucidly and in great detail..the book also includes a lot of interfacing examples..

Good material
... even if it doesn't say much about operating systems. It has great discussions of processor architecture, on-chip peripherals, circuit diagrams for signal conditioning, pulse width modulation, filters and Z transforms, RF networking, and a battery of things any engineer will need to know when developing embedded real-time controllers. In amongst all that, you'll find mention of critical sections, memory allocation, basics of process scheduling, interrupt handling, and a few words about file systems - you know, operating system stuff. I found this discussion, what little there was, generally well done, opening the black boxes just a little to see what's inside malloc(), for example. So, it's good material - specific to ARM, perhaps, but with the sort of discussion that encourages a reader to look at other processors the same kind of way. It covers some of the basic OS services at a low level. That's great, people need to know that, but things like message queues between processes and having processes wake up on message arrival would have been nice, too. What's here is good, and the material on interfacing is important for real-world development. But, if discussion of embedded OSs is what brought you here in the first place, you might not get the full treatment you hoped for.-- wiredweird, reviewing paper copy of 4th edition

Excellent Book
This book is thoroughly recommended. It provides a clear and concise approach to the subject, and presents the core setup requirements for starting your own projects. The theory is explained very well, with the code, structures, and implementation presented to ensure that you can progress through the book without questions on which parts are missing, or how to design the code. This aspect is critical to learning about how to understand embedded systems, as opposed to a pure theoretical publication, where you would be left wondering how to implement the theory. The book presentation style is easy to read, and there are detailed explanations of the code, whether C, or machine code.

A very useful book
I really liked the book. Nicely written and informative.
