Installation was fairly simple as is expected of a water timer. There is some conflicting instructions where the diagram in the installation guide shows the meter's power wires connected one way but the little paper in the package with the wires say something else. Go with the little paper.After hookup, WiFi was recognized instantly through the app. If you've setup echo dot, this should come naturally to you.Alexa integration works well although I can't see myself flicking it on and off on a whim. Perhaps this will be useful l when I hook this up to to the pool pump.Overall, way better than the the mechanical timer and the constant ticking and fidgeting with the clips.Timer was set, and I heard it click on and off.So far, great buy.PS. So I finally got around to installing my second WiOn for my swimming pool pump. I use this far more often with Alexa as I turn off and on the pump prior to and after swimming. This is far more convenient than walking to the pump. That said, installation went easy (although I tripped the main house circuit during installation). The antenna, however, ripped off. I thought I could solder it back on but there was no slack in the wire so no go. I left it be. I was able to install the device on the app in close (within 3 inches) range. However, the signal was too low to work anywhere else.I think this is the root of the problem many reviewers are having with range.I finally took the device apart. The antenna is basically glued on from the inside which also acts to waterproof the hole.The antenna using a standard pigtail which is used by many wifi antennas. I took one off an old verizon router off the motherboard.Fits perfectly and now I have a standard screw mount instead of a fixed antenna. I then screwed in an old boom antenna for wifi extensions, and voila. Works great again.Check the wifi antenna or the pigtail connection on the motherboard for connection if you are having issues.BTW, like other smart home devices, it is not clear if the timer will continue to work if the wifi is down. I think it will continue because even when the system was out of range because of the broken antenna, the pump continued to click on throughout my original time settings.This is good news.

Prior to buying this I read all of the reviews, both positive and negative, and decided to give it a try. My biggest worry was that it wouldn't connect to my Wifi at the installed location, but I checked it before purchasing with a Wifi analyzer and it showed a fairly strong signal (-65 dBm), so I decided to go ahead. The item was delivered, and I spent a couple of hours installing it. Manual operation - working! Wifi connection - setup no problem! Wifi turn it on - no. I tried everything - rebooting, reconfiguring, reload the app, all to no avail. At the exact location, with my phone on airplane mode with only the Wifi to use, a speedtest showed 23Mbps download, 6Mbps upload. Obviously a good Wifi signal was available at the location, but the WiON box couldn't connect well enough to turn on the switch.I uninstalled it and returned it. Waste of time and effort. I wouldn't recommend this item unless your installed location is right next to your Wifi (and even then I have no confidence it will work).Oh, one other thing. One other reviewer mentioned that there is no factory reset. I can confirm that. There's a button and instructions on how to do a factory reset, but pressing the reset button for 10+ seconds does nothing. I tried 10+ times. I couldn't get it forget my wifi network/login. Piece of junk, don't waste your time or money.

I have a total of four Wion devices. Two smart boxes and two outdoor outlet plug devices. All have worked great. I can understand how the smart box may not work for some folk's pools, if their pool equipment/timer is a good distance from the house/central wifi. Our pool equipment is right next to the house (on the other side of a concrete foundation), and we have had zero issues with connectivity.I wish they did not have heat issues with the in-wall switch, I would love to us one for our front outdoor wall lights. Hopefully they revise the design of that device.The app is not super flashy, but who cares... its an app for turning devices on and off. you can set multiple types of timers -- for instance, you can set lights to come on relative to sun-down, and then set a separate timer overlaps coming "on" during the same period but turns off at a fixed time later in the night.EDIT: The one negative I will recognize with this box is the lack of multiple mounting points. I ended up mimicking the layout of mounting points from my older intermatic switch, but drilling some small holes with the same diameter screw just below the terminals. This offer three mounting points for a secure mount -- two under the terminals, and one on the top (that comes standard from the factory).

Wifi connectivity drops constantly and have to reset daily! I bought 2 of these for the pool and paid a licensed electrician to install. Now they are useless and have to replace. The wifi signal is strong where these units are located and I have other wifi switch from another brand which don't have any issues.

This seems to be a good solution for heavy demand uses. I burned out a smaller wion unit and have had no response from wion about the failure of the other unit. I have not had the heavier u it long enough to know about it’s longevity.

Love it. Super easy to set up and use. I installed a 115volt outlet plug in the soffit of my house for my Christmas lights. Hard wired the plug to the Woods WiFi smart box and then from the box to a 15amp circuit breaker on my panel. Bingo. Now i can turn on and off the Christmas lights manually or set up a timer with the Woods app.LOVE IT!
