Nice product and easy install
Easy to install and does the job. My plumbing roof vent had a large crack in the boot above the flashing. I slipped the Perma Boot over it with ease and was done. I chose to add some sealant around the top 3/4 of the boot but it's not required. Looks nice and seems to be working well. We've had several big storms since adding this and no leaks.

So glad I found this thing.
I'm so happy I found this thing, was replacing cast vent and tore boot on roof. Contractor told me would have to pull up some shingles and replace the boot, was going to cost couple hundred dollars. purchased this thing and it fit right on, looks good, covers the white pipe as black and didn't have to replace the boot. Installed using no tools and has been installed for over a month through storms and hasn't moved and no leaks. Highly recommend for both contractors and DIYers.

Quite a good product
I would give 5 stars if simply a little longer...I have installed two of these and one vent pipe was about two inches too long for this to fit. Cutting a cast iron pipe is painful: so wish these had been just slightly longer! I suggest installing using GEOCEL GC55103 4500 Roof Bonding Sealant (expensive but REALLY good). I also suggest using an oscillating tool to trim shingles slightly: see YOUTUBE videos on installing. Installation is very easy. Note that the internal diameter may need to be increased slightly if installing over cast iron vents (a sander or rasp can handle that).

Everyone with a roof should install these.
These American made , roof plumbing vent covers are awesome. Never replace another rubber boot cover again for the life of your roof. Durable , easy to install , and you don't need to disturb your existing shingles. Customer service ( Sales Manager) answered any e-mailed questions I had within 24 hours. Great company. Great product.

Not for every situation
I purchased this product to repair an older cast iron sewer vent flashing that was leaking. Thinking it might be simple, I climbed up the 20 some feet with my box of stuff, to install the Perma Boot cap. I had replaced the original vent flashing with a new rubber collar previously, and the fact that it was still leaking made me think I that I might need to repair around the old vent flashing, so I did all sorts of fixing... new counter flashing, replacing loose bottom nails, regluing disturbed shingles, and then set the Perma Boot unit on the original vent for a see if it would work. It seemed fine, so I caulked it in place, and caulked the the top piece on. As I normally do in a case where I want to not have to come back, I re-studied the new vent. I realized that the new top cap part was about 4-5 inches away from sitting directly on the original cast iron vent pipe. The top replacement vent piece, I assume, is supposed to fit down over the vent pipe, preventing water from getting anywhere but the inside of the vent pipe. With a 5" separation between the new flanged top, and my sewer vent, I surmised that rain could just come in at an angle an run right down the outside of the old vent, giving me the same problem of seepage I was trying to fix. I've had some problems sawing plastics in the past, and I decided against getting adhesive junk all over me, trying to saw the new repair pieces to fit. So I made an interior funnel type flashing out of some spare aluminum and made sure it sat tightly under the new top cap flange and funnel into the vent stack. Now, hopefully rainwater will run down the inside of the aluminum flashing and into the vent pipe, and not trickle down the outside. An adjustable length adapter for iron pipe might be a good accessory item. I also think the instructions should mention that the height of the original vent pipe needs to be a good fit with the new top piece. The instructions avoid giving advice about caulk types, and really don't give any (look for this, or that, check for) installation tips. Since this product is made for the casual repair, a little help could do wonders. As an aging general contractor, I've done a lot of building. Roofing problems are one of the most aggravating and perplexing repairs to fix. I'd also like to know if this product can be used in high wind areas.

Get it, it's worth it.
Super easy. Just make sure you measure and order the right size. And buy caulk.Learned about this in my home inspector training class after my teacher raved about it. There was no way i was replacing my slightly cracked and leaking boot without wrecking my old but intact shingles. This is the perfect safe alternative, and will cover all future cracks.

El Nino and the Perma Boot
I survived the first El Nino storm of 2016 in California but the tar of one of the roof vents was crumbling and there was a leak over the house heater and down the wall. I knew calling a roofer to come at look at it would be an exercise in futility so I started to look for a solution. I found the Perma Boot and ordered it. I went for expedited delivery and it arrived on the promised day. The product is excellent quality and with a slight modification fit quite nicely. Sadly, there is no adhesive included and the one I ordered arrived with 2/3 of the product dried out and the rest oozing out in the package. But a quick run to the store and we were back on track. Best news is the leak was stopped and we are ready for the next round of storms.
