Probably the best Tintin adventure.
The non-stop action begins on page one and doesn't let up until our intrepid reporter has put the entire criminal underworld of 1920's Chicago behind bars. He also makes wider forays into the wild west and the prairies.Herg'e deftly satirises the irony and corruption of the burgeoning American dream, but also captures the runaway energy and youthful optimism of a young, developing America.Hence we see native Americans forced off their land within half an hour of oil being discovered, or cops saluting as gangsters walk by. The relentless energy and comic irony of events hits you at every turn, making this book probably the most gripping page-turner of all the Tintin series.

5-year old Tintin fan...
This is close to how I remember Tintin when I discovered the series in my elementary school library in the '70s. The page size I remember seemed bigger, but I, myself, was quite a bit smaller, so I'm not sure if there's a change there.I purchased this after returning the Volume 1 of TinTin -- the three-story set with the purple cover -- which proved to be too small to read easily. Tintin in America is the first story in that volume, so that's how I ended up here.Probably not the first choice for sharing with my not quite five-year-old son, with some politically incorrect American Indian references, not to mention lots of gun play, physical violence, and near-death circumstances, but no matter: we took it all in stride, a few pages at a time, and he absolutely soaked it in. Herge keeps the illustrations and violence fairly tame, and mortality isn't a foreign concept in our house, so the real challenge was translating the gangster-speak dialogue.I was pleased enough with his enthusiasm for the book that we're off now to Destination Moon. My son is into trains, not rockets, so it'll be interesting to see if that affects his outlook on Round II of Tintin.

New editions with "behind the back" pages!
I grew up with Tintin and am so happy to be able to purchase new editions of the favorite world-famous stories for my kids! This handsome paperbark edition has a number of pages at the end telling of the fascinating way author Herge' researched and imagined the details of his wonderful, geographically realistic and adventuresome stories! Highly recommended! These will make wonderful gifts as they can be enjoyed again and again. I suspect with the new movie out, Tintin will finally become popular in the USA!

I loved this book.
I had many of the Tin Tin books as a child in both French and English, but I never read this one before. It met all expectations I had and reminded me of just why I liked the series. The book is written comic book style, which is today often called "Graphic Novel." It is bright and simple enough that my 7 year old grandson liked us to read it together and enjoyed it.

Terrific adventure stories with a great sense of humor, intrigue and great characters for kids to enjoy
My son loved these stories and now my grandsons are equally enthusiastic about them. Loved to have them read to them and now are reading themselves. Great for beginning readers as there is a large vocabulary, much larger than in the easy readers. I highly recommend them for 4 or 5 and up.
