Received broken, but I don't care!
My wife bought this for me, as I am in the Coast Guard, and she knows I love me some paraphernalia. The Cutter pictured on the side of the trailer is the High Endurance Cutter Jarvis, WHEC-725. I served on Jarvis's sister ship, Coast Guard Cutter Munro, named after Signalman First Class Douglas Munro, the only Coast Guardsman to have been awarded the Medal of Honor, posthumously. The picture shows the Jarvis pre-FRAM, or Fleet Renovation and Modernization, a retrofit effort the Coast Guard undertook to modernize its WHEC 378 foot High Endurance Cutter Fleet of 13 Cutters back in the 1980s and early 90s. FRAM included removal of the old 5" gun in favor of a Mk75 76mm Anti-Aircraft Gun, addition of a Mk92 Fire Control Radar, a Phalanx CIWS (Close In Weapons System) Point Defense System, advanced MILSATCOM and COMSATCOM systems, and updated crew accommodation. The FRAM upgrade for all 13 of the WHEC hulls extended the life cycle of the HEC fleet from 20 to 45 years. The oldest of the HEC fleet, WHEC-715 CGC Hamilton, was retired two years ago in 2010.Now the broken part... The mirror on the right side of the truck was broken in the container. Super glue fixes that, so no worries. I wouldn't recommend not purchasing this simply because of this problem; plastic is fragile sometimes, so it wasn't a big deal to me.The details on the truck and trailer are very impressive, and it shows the designer put a lot of effort into making sure to pay special attention to the things a collector will notice. I'm no collector, but I do know attention to detail when I see it.All around, a very good addition to my "I Love Me" wall!
