Over price very expensive..

-Amazing piece of kit that punches way higher than its weight.-For the £58 I paid, it was too good to be true.- I used it as music player on the go and as a DAC on my laptops and it was awesome both ways.- Battery life was ridiculously great, even better than my old trusted Sansa Clips (zip, +, sport..etc).- I used it mostly to play FLAC files (ripped from audio CDs) and the old MP3s I had.- Upgrading the firmware was super simple from Fiio's website.- It handled the 256GB microSD card I put in quite nicely too.HOWEVER:All of a sudden, it stopped, restarted, and just stayed on the start-up screen (Google: fiio Welcome screen).No signs of life thereafter.Hard resets, firmware reflashing, firmware rollbacks... You name it. Nothing worked.Fiio's support wasn't any good, the only response I (and many others) got from them was :"contact the seller and ask for a replacement", so I just returned it, and going to buy the fiio MY instead.I still appreciate fiio and their products, but this wasn't what you'd expect from them!So, to conclude, buy it and enjoy it, but make sure you cover yourself by buying it through Amazon so that you avoid the hassle in case you want to return it.

Nowadays, I find the times that I listen to music are when I'm in the car or on the bus, or cooking or tinkering. It's a pleasant background track to me getting on with 'stuff' and it's conveniently accessible anytime, anywhere because it's being delivered by my phone. All fine, but just occasionally I'll be tinkering in the sitting room and I'll put on a cd or even clear the clutter off the top of the record deck and suddenly I'm reminded what an amazing experience just listening to music for it's own sake can be. The surprise comes from realising just how much is missing from the compressed music we stream or play on our phones. We don't engage with it because we've lost the richness and depth that is in the original recording.So, I've looked at HiRes audio players for some time but the cost of entry always seemed too high. Now, however, there are lots of ChiFi players appearing but I remember the early days of mp3 players and how rubbish the firmware was in the no-brand copycats. I was swithering whether to take a punt when I came across the Fiio M3K. I've read good things about Fiio and they've been around for quite a few years so seeing the player at under £60 seemed a no-brainer.What you get is a pretty basic HiRes player but...1. It sounds great! The audio processing is superb and makes even low bitrate mp3s sound more open. It will play most HiRes formats, including DSD's (I bought one to check)2. Operationally, it's got a few quirks but it works well, is fairly intuitive and doesn't take much time to adapt to3. It's built really well and feels like a much more expensive, quality product4. Storage is on microSD cards so that's an extra cost. Allow another £20 or so for a 128GB card. That will hold a decent amount of CD quality files. (It will apparently work with up to a 2TB microSD if they ever make one)5. It can pump out a decent volume and battery life is genuinely amazing6. Your headphone/earphone choice makes a huge difference to the listening experience. The decent quality earbuds I enjoy using with my phone don't work well with this player. I think it's to do with them being low impedance. I've been trying my stage I.E.M.s and Studio headphones and they both sound pretty good. However, while they are very neutral and detailed they're also a bit clinical. After reading lot's of reviews I've opted for Fiio's own F5's and they've taken it to another level - much more 'musical' and engaging and also very comfortable to wear. I think they're a great match for the M3K.Music is so embedded in our psyche it's worth getting the best you can from it. With Mp3's we traded quality for convenience and lost that visceral connection. This player lets you re-engage with your music and experience the thrill and emotional roller coaster that made you buy it in the first place.

Very impressed with the build (this is a good looking player with a great design), the battery life, the screen (including the touch control section which works great), the processor speed and the sound quality, which is very decent for the price.Would have been very happy keeping this for years, but it was plagued by the reboot problem, which Fiio did try to solve for me via email (I tried literally everything over the 3 months I had it). The problem is unfortunately unpredictable; Fiio recommends deleting the tracks that cause the problem, but that relies on you actually being able to see which track is playing (it reboots immediately as the song starts) and the player only displays the song title briefly, when the player is usually pocketed. It’s a testament to the quality of the player that I nearly kept it anyway, but two things happened. First, I managed to isolate one of the ‘reboot’ tracks, replayed it and this time it didn’t reboot, which suggests that the problem lies not in the song file, but elsewhere. Second, the unit rebooted a few times whilst being used as a DAC for my PC. This is a widespread problem (search the web) and Fiio appear to have attempted to solve the problem with firmware revisions (claiming in the notes of the last one that they had succeeded) to no avail.Returning today,with regret.

Vorweg muss ich sagen, dass ich eigentlich einen MP3 Player zur Wiedergabe von (audible) Hörbüchern gesucht habe. Bisher habe ich dafür einen Sandisk Sansa Clip benutzt - zu meiner vollen Zufriedenheit. Er ist kompakt, das Menu ist simpel und er verarbeitet audible Dateien. Wie gesagt habe ich ihn für Hörbücher und beim Sport verwendet. Leider hat ihn die Altersschwäche befallen. Wie viele von euch habe ich mich auf eine lange und, im Bezug auf Audible Kompatibilität, enttäuschende Suche begeben. Für mein Autoradio habe ich Hörbücher bereits in MP3s umgewandelt und in 6 Minuten Titel geschnitten. Dies klappt wunderbar, allerdings funktioniert die Lesenzeichenfunktion (Fortsetzen der Wiedergabe am Punkt des Aufhörens) nicht, wenn ich zwischendurch z.B. in meinen Musik MP3 Ordner wechsele.Bei meiner Suche habe ich mein Handy als Wiedergabequelle ausgeschlossen, da ich Hörbücher oft im Bett höre und mein Handy mein Schlafzimmer nicht betreten darf :-)Da Audible verarbeitende MP3 Player nicht zu finden waren bin ich schlussendlich beim FiiO M3K gelandet. Knapp 70 € für meine Zwecke fand ich zunächst relativ viel Geld - ich habe ihn dennoch bestellt und habe es nicht bereut.Schon das erste in der Hand halten hat mir ein Lächeln ins Gesicht gezaubert. Der Kleine fühlt sich einfach stabil und, wie sagt man so schön, wertig an. Die Bedienung ist erstaunlich einfach. Ich habe eine knappe Viertelstunde gebraucht um mich mit der Navigation vertraut zu machen. Der M3K wird überwiegend per Touchscreen gesteuert (die untere Hälfte ist hierfür reserviert, die obere Hälfte ist eine reine Anzeige). Generell bin ich eher ein Fan von "echten" Knöpfen, muss aber zugeben, dass die Steuerung beim FiiO gut gelöst ist.Nun zum wohl Wichtigsten, dem Klang. Hier hat der Kleine mich nochmals überrascht. Ich bin kein audiophiler Feingeist und Frequenzlauscher, weiß aber einen guten Klang durchaus zu schätzen. Der M3K hat diesen auf jedem Fall. Im Vergleich zum Sandisk ist mir sofort (bei schnöden MP3s wohlgemerkt) ein deutlich, mmh, vollerer, angenehmerer Klang aufgefallen. Top! Ich nutze ältere AKG In Ears, die für meinen Geschmack einen guten Klang haben, oder lasse den Player über mein Vita/Ruark Audio Radiowecker (welcher einen für meinen Geschmack ebenfalls ausgezeichnet klingt) laufen.Ein weiterer Pluspunkt ist die lange Laufzeit. Ich habe den Akku noch nicht leer bekommen (nach ca. 6 Stunden Betrieb zeigt die Anzeige noch "zu 3/4 voll" an).Final kann ich sagen, dass ich froh bin, zum FiiO gegriffen zu haben. Ja, zu meinem vollen Glück wäre es schön, wenn man mehrere Lesezeichen setzen könnte, so dass ein Wechsel zwischen mehreren Hörbüchern bzw. zw. Hörbuch und Musik möglich ist. Aus diesem Grund auch der eine Stern Abzug.Ich werde mir wahrscheinlich einen zweiten M3K für meine Musik kaufen. Mein Fazit: Absolute Kaufempfehlung für glückliche Ohren.

I had to return a Sony NW A45 which was just hopeless user wise and sound wise. I saw this FiiO M3K on a You Tube channel as one of the top recommended hi resplayers for 2019. It over £300 cheaper than any of the other recommended units in that online piece. A bit more research made me aware of a few limitations that I thought I could live with and I took the plunge. Oh boy am I glad I did!CONS:No BluetoothNot touchscreen but has a sort of hybrid touchscreen interface in the lower 2 thirds of the front panel takes a little getting used to at first.Small size means quite a small display screenPROSTop notch sound quality.Drives all of my headphones and earphones plenty loud enough with needing additional portable amp.Small and lightweight ones with a silicone protective sleeveExcellent solid output jack.I just took out the 128Gb micro so card that contained much of my music ripped from CD from my Chuwi hi10 pro windows 10 tablet, and popped it into the M3K card slot, fired up the little machine and it instantly recognised and replicated the library structure that I had created. Every album cover was also shown. No issues on any of the 229 albums on that card. No issues with scrambling of tracks or missing an albums first track that I encountered with the Sony NW A45.I had not created playlists and rarely use them except on my phone via Spotify so I don’t know how they would fare transferring. My intention is to continue to rip CDs to my tablet in Windows 10 creating more libraries on other cards and then use them in the M3K when I wish.I use wired headphones and did not intend to stream to other devices so the stands alone nature of the M3K suits me fine but it won’t be right for everyone... think carefully about whether you can live with the limited feature set of the device.UPDATE 20 October 2019 okay I’ve had this for 9 months. I was finding that if I charged the player and left it for a week or so without using it that there was no power. I think there is a issue where it did not completely turn off even though the screen gives a goodbye message. However the huge issue is that the whole screen plate has popped out of the metal case. The screen intermittently still works but this is pretty poor. Such a shame as the sound is amazing. I will contact Amazon for advice and update again in due course.Update to Update: Excellent service from Alex at Amazon tech support who put me in touch with the fab supplier EA Audio in Fleet. Elliot from EA Audio not only processed the exchange for a brand new unit but also returned my micro SD card that I left in the broken unit. I was only around 10 days without my M3K. Thanks to Amazon tech support and EA Audio for top customer service.
