Backgammon Set - 15 Inch - Oak - Handmade Jaques of London

I bought this backgammon set for my eight-year-old son's birthday. Like many kids, he is caught up in electronic games. In an effort to find some balance in games and exercising his grey matter, I decided to go with a board game. I learned backgammon in my twenties, and had forgotten the strategies. He is a very bright child and picked up on the game quickly, and he loves the head to head competition. It was fun for us to share the learning experience.As far as the quality of the product, it is superb. When he opened his gift at his party, the adults were wowed by the wood work. The product really is beautiful. Oddly, my son seems to get how nice the case is and cares for it like it will be a future heirloom.The only issue, and it is a small one; the checkers are also wood and they tend to slide some on the board. We seem to have made adjustments to when we move the checkers; and again, this is minor, and not much of a problem anymore. In fact, each checker has its own uniqueness, and this adds to my son's fascination with the product.It should be mentioned the wood is from sustainable sources. Furthermore, I received a catalog from Jacques of London, and they have many beautiful "old" games. The company has a long, proud history in games, and it is still family-run and owned. This company is a class act. I will be making more purchases in the future.As a professional marketer and PR practitioner who does a lot of surveys, I tend not to rate something to either extreme, but this came very close to getting five stars, very close.

This is an absolutely gorgeous set and I cannot wait to play. I bought it for my new RV and wanted to have Classics available and this fufills my view of Classic. Thank you so much!

We bought this for our son and daughter in law and they are very pleased with the quality and workmanship. The instructions for playing backgammon appear to have been written many years ago perhaps when Jaques first started making these. None of us has ever played the game so the instructions are not that clear perhaps if we were backgammon players it would be clearer. Other than that we are very pleased with the set

I received the item which was very well packaged to avoid damage.The set was everything I had hoped and I was highly pleased with the quality.

Beautiful. I applied 2 coats of Tung Oil to reinforce and preserve the oak veneer and oak side panels. Very pleased with the set.

I was very disappointed with this product. The wooden playing board has a very slippery surface, and the wooden counters are correspondingly slippery. I tried treating the board with cooking oil, but this did not help.

This premium finish is simply amazing. I highly recommend this product for its craftsmanship and attention to detail.
