The doctoral gowns and hoods offered by my university are thin and cheap looking, and I wanted something a little nicer. This hood was affordable and looked great. It was a little wrinkled on arrival, but a few minutes in the dryer on low got them out. For reference, I'm 5'6.

Rather than rent every year, this is a beautiful doctoral hood.

After seeing my institution's ridiculous pricing on doctoral regalia I decided to look to on Amazon to make my own pull-together regalia outfit. For about the third of the price, I had composed my own set of robes, hood, and tam for less than 1/3 of the price of the "premium" regalia offered by my university's bookstore.This hood arrived in much better condition than I expected considering the price. The velvet looks and feels expensive and the satin (the black part) isn't too shiny. After a quick steam, all of the wrinkles for shipping released and it hung nicely.I would highly recommend this hood for the graduating PhD or faculty member who needs "premium" quality regalia for a fraction of the typical cost.
