Bombshells 2: Allies

Great Stories
I like that DC publisher set this else world stories during World War Two area and they have reimagined their DC character in this universe. These tales have a lot of lesbian over tones, but if the reader can get pass this element; the stories are worth reading.

Not a DC fan but
But I still really enjoy this collection of women working together. I don't even know the background on half of them, like Aquawoman and the Russian sisters, but I still enjoy the story and the character lines I know and live, like Harley Quinn and Wonderwoman!

Still a Surprisingly Great Read with Plenty of Action and the Formation of the Bombshells' Justice League
Bombshells continues its strong run with this second volume in which the titular DC heroines coming face to face with the magical threat the Nazis are attempting to employ: the undead tenebrae. Wonder Woman and Steve Trevor encounter the new leader of this group of undead soliders: the Baroness Paula von Gunther who plans on leading a large scale attack on Britain. Kat Kane, the Batwoman, was taken prisoner by the tenebrae's Nazi handlers at the end of the first volume and must rely on the Huntress and Catwoman for aid behind enemy lines. Stargirl and Supergirl are mourning the capture of their father only to find out that Stargirl is the daughter of a rich socialite who wants her to give up her heroic ways. Mera is becoming fast friends with the soldiers of the British Royal Navy only to learn that they are the target of an Atlantean assault as King Nereus of Atlantis has allied with the tenebrae forces. All the disparate story arcs converge together during the book's finale when the Baroness von Gunther leads the tenebrae and the Atlantean sea monsters against London. In the midst of the battle the Bombshells join together to create their own Justice League and push back against the undead forces of Germany. The only weaker element of this book is the opening arc which follows a group of young children back in America carrying on Batwoman's legacy. It is meant to be the Bombshell title's interpretation of the Bat Family and while it isn't a bad arc it feels far too removed from the rest of the action. I was too ready for their arc to end so we could pick things back up with Wonder Woman and the others. The other issue is that the book often uses odd page layouts that alternate without clarity meaning I had to reread a few too many pages to get the actual flow of the writing as it was intended.

A joy to read
My initial attraction to this series centered on the alternate Supergirl, but Marguerite Bennett being signed to write it got all of my attention, as it promised an interesting tension between the cheesecake of the designs and Bennett's skills as a writer. That promise bore out, as the characters all have interesting voices, each distinctive, and the 1940s designs are clever, and often amusing (the change thing on John Constantine is the gift that keeps on giving) and often a surprise -- this might well have my favorite versions of Amanda Waller and Mera. The artwork is variable, but generally pretty (and occasionally incorrect in vehicle depiction) and the book as a whole an enjoyable read.

Beautifully drawn adventures
The 2nd collection from DC's Bombshells range and the story picks up right from where the 1st left off.The main selling point to me of this series is the Artwork, i love the look of the whole thing, from the charactor design through to the backgrounds. Obviously all of the ladies are based on the statue range that the bombshells started out as, and that translates nicely onto the page. The story is also interesting, set in WW2 it gives plenty of chance for action and excitement, as well as pitting the strong female charactors in it against the thoughts of the time.I enjoyed it a lot and will definately be getting the 3rd edition when it comes out

Amazing Series
I usually donโt like reading D.C and Marvel cause nothing feels like it changes but this alternate universe series is really good and great for queer representation
