The Progress of Love

Not swept away-
Highly lauded, however I don’t find Alice Munro’s writing as magnetic as many. Her stories are thoughtful and she chooses incidents that are often small but always meaningful. Despite this, her writing is long winded and digressive. I’m sorry, Alice- I’m not swept away.

I did not enjoy this book
Even though she received awards for her writing, I did not enjoy this book. The stories seemed to go no where, and I had difficulty trying to figure out the progress of love in the stories.

Fairly disappointed. I was expecting to get the cover with Coleville's painting, as shown. Instead, I received a book with a plain, green cover.

Collection of niche novel and not mere stories
The beauty of Munro's writing lies in simplicity and character depth. How often does one feel that the characters are not just well developed but thoroughly developed in a short story? Importantly, the typical short stories cover aspects of a short span, and probably justified by the word 'short'. Whereas most others write stories that are short, Munro does it the other way. She shortens the stories, and that is the difference between Munro and others. I am not saying the cliche that she truly deserved the Nobel prize. This is beyond all of that. It is more like collection of novels and not *short* stories.
