This has a 1/4" screw. Most tripods have a threaded socket for a 1/4" or 3/8" screw, so if your tripod has the larger like mine you will need to use a 3/8" to 1/4" Reducer Bushing Screw Adapter. I opted for a thread locker for both the bushing and the screw. I replaced the metal split ring with two heavier-duty split rings and a heavier-duty carabiner. When I get to where I am going I set my tripod up and hang my backpack from the carabiner. This keeps my backpack off the wet ground and uses the backpack to stabilize my tripod so that it doesn't move (or worse, blow over in higher winds).
