Lisa De Leeuw stars as Dixie Ray, a one-time Hollywood starlet whose career has hit the fast track to nowheresville. Her star was on the rise, but now the glitz and glamour have passed her by. Dixie's attempting a comeback, but it's threatened when her ex-husband starts passing around some old nudie shots of her. She hires private eye John Leslie to track down her ex-hubby, get the pics and put and end to the blackmail attempt. Before you can say 'Sam Spade,' the P.I. finds himself the target of everything from murderous ambushes to go-go gun molls looking for an erotic edge. In the end, it's the gumshoe who gets the goods on every single female member of the cast. Or should we say gets the goodies? Lisa De Leeuw turns in one of the performances of her career here as the femme fatale, smoldering with sensual allure as she lures Leslie into her torrid trap. The flick is masterfully shot in a facsimile of the film noir style -- all moody shadows and lurid angles. All of the atmosphere adds an extra layer of sizzle to what's already a great sex film. 'Dixie Ray Hollywood Star' in many ways represents the ultimate Golden Age expression of the porn P.I. flick -- crafty plot, luscious women and plenty of sweaty sensuality.

The R version of this film is the better of the two versions supplied - the sex scenes in the X version are boring and interrupt the story too much, as the detective plot is quite good in its own right. I only ordered it to see Cameron Mitchell's scenes, which I couldn't find on the web, and I've already passed on the film to a friend as it's not one I want to keep in my CM collection.

Le DVD est d'excellente qualité et le programme tout à fait exceptionnel dans le genre: Anthony Spinelli réalisateur estimable, sans pour autant être toujours très passionnant (tel 'Sex World' à la fois beau et varié mais aussi un peu ennuyeux sur la longueur), mais ici au Top tout comme John Leslie! (déjà dans l'intéressant 'Nothing to Hide' de l'année précédente, leur collaboration était fructueuse); John Leslie dans ses meilleurs moments, plus tard, réalisera lui même quelques très bons opus dans ce registre du 'polar luxueux'. Dans ce Dixie Ray Hollywood Star (dans une ambiance 'film noir' des années quarante), le talent et la maîtrise culminent, et notre intérêt soutenu à le visionner, de bout en bout, ne se dément jamais. Excellente vision![Ce DVD présente une image de très grande qualité, la sonorité étant parfaitement convenable; en supplément le film en version 'soft' qui aurait presque ma préférence, tout à fait convaincante! (montage initial intrinsèque)]
