Mai-Kai: History and Mystery of the Iconic Tiki Restaurant

This book is FULL of interesting photos of the number one tiki destination in America. I had my works on consignment in their shop for some time, so I made numerous visits to the Mai-Kai and fell in love with the magic the first time I walked through the door. Mr. Glazner captures that magic in his book. I am so glad that he has taken the effort to put this historical walk through the Mai-Kai together. With the recent loss of Don's historical location (though it will get a reboot in a new place), it is even more imperative that historians put together great records like this of the iconic tiki palaces that are disappearing too fast.

Live in Fort Lauderdale and have been going to this place for more than 30 years. Still love each time I go through the door! It transports you, to me, back to younger days and those great memories. It also transports you to another place in time. Many a great nights spilling out this Tiki palace. This book is an amazing capture of mid-century world of Tiki lifestyle. Don't hesitate to own!

After reading this account of 1950's and '60's American kitsch history, I just had to go !! They still have the Mystery Drink and the Mystery Girl to serve it ---needless to say, we had a Rummy good time in Ft. Lauderdale !!

I have been a fan of the Mai-Kai since my parents took me there in 1962. This book is wonderful and brings back such great memories.I was able to do a tour with the author in June and can't wait to go back.I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in Tiki culture.The Mai-kai is a must visit for everyone!!Can't wait for the second edition.
