Great no frills Bluray player
I originally hesitated ordering this player because of some of the bad reviews, but buying refurbished is definitely the way to go. It's been a few months now and i have had no major issues, only minor complaints. The most obvious flaw is the build quality....not a deal breaker, but just something to be aware of. For instance, as others have stated, the disc tray is a bit flimsy but works fine. Another thing i noticed is how it handles scratched discs. Instead of skipping, the screen will go black when it has trouble reading the disc, but it will read some pretty scratched up discs. These issues are nit picking, but someone may find it useful to know. The really good thing is how well this player works! Boot up is really fast as well as initial disc read time. Picture quality is second to none, as well as audio quality. Really so many good qualities about this player to list so if your on the fence, just buy it, you won't regret it.

amazing picture and sound-definately worth the money
though i just got it (refurbished) it is great. the picture and sound are amazing. even though i don't have any 4k blu-ray movies yet, i can only imagine how much better it will play with a 4k disc. the buttons on the unit itself r so sensitive you barely have to touch them and they respond. and even though i dont have a samsung tv, the second the unit is powered on, it switches my tv input to the blu-ray player. it doesnt switch it back when the unit is powered off though. also, the users manual was not in the box, probably because it was refurbished. amazon was very quick to email the manual to me. instanly. and the remote is so tiny its hard to hit the right button

Good value. I just hope it lasts!
EDIT: I returned this player for two reasons. First, after I plugged this unit into the power outlet, the Cable Modem I had plugged in on the same circuit started randomly rebooting!!!! Took me a while to figure out this player was somehow causing that! I don't know how this player, even when powered off could cause some kind of electrical interference that would cause a cable modem to reboot!?!? But after unplugging this player, the cable modem stopped rebooting! RETURNED!!!Also, while watching a disk, the TV screen would go black randomly for a couple of seconds. It did not happen a lot, but maybe a couple of times each disk.Too bad - otherwise I would have kept this.------------------------------------------------------------------------------I needed to replace a 10 year old Sony blue-ray player that was on its last legs. Was going to buy another Sony, but all their models reviews seemed to state that they freeze and need to be unplugged which was what my old unit did a lot too. So I figured I would get a Samsung to match my TV.Overall, I think this is a good value. I just hope it lasts!I was leery of a refurb as I only had purchased one other Amazon refurb in the past which worked out great. For me, the unit came in the factory box, and the packaging was professional with everything sealed in plastic. The remote looked brand new, and came with a new battery and a new HDMI cord. The unit itself had scratches on the top like it was in an AV stack.Pros:* When playing a regular DVD, the upscale worked really great.* Easy setup.* Works great with a Samsung TV Smart Controller.* Full feature set, and has some features that others are missing.Cons:* When playing a Bluray disk, the upscale was not as good as I expected. Pretty much looked like standard 1080P to me.* No front display anymore. Seems like all the manufacturers have gotten away from a front display for some reason.* When you power off the unit and power it back on, the disk starts from the beginning and not where you left off. VERY ANNOYING! You have to search for where you left off.

Good 4K player, With One Drawback...
Samsung UBD-K8500 UBD-KM85C Wi-Fi 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Player (Certified Refurbished) - I took a chance and ordered this refurbished, as I've had good experiences in the past here with refurb products. The unit arrived in a somewhat flimsy box, with not much padding, but was luckily undamaged so I didn't deduct any stars for it, but thought it worth mentioning. After hooking it up, and setting up network & other features (which was easy) I tested several disks (UHD, regular DVD, a few burned DVD's on DVD-R single and dual layer, and CD) All the disks played fine, and the picture quality was great. Sound was also very good through my Denon AVR.I then tested the various streaming apps (Netflix, Hulu, VUDU, etc) and found they all worked well and also had good quality pic. Overall, a very good player. A little slow maybe, but I can live with that for the price. Now for the reason I took off one star.I've had several other Blu Ray and DVD players over the years, and this is the only one I've had that does not continue the movie where you left off, after stopping the disks. I've even had a few that would restart where you left off even after removing the disk and putting back in. They actually asked if you wanted to resume where you left off, or restart the disk. Not this one. If you stop the disk for any reason and restart it, it starts from the beginning again. It doesn't ask, or flash any kind of message, it just starts at the beginning of the disk. Very frustrating if you accidentally hit the stop button. You have to go into the disk menu and go through the chapter menu to get back close to where you left off. I don't know if this is inherent to this particular model, or related to this being a refurb unit, but It's definitely a black mark on an otherwise very good 4K blu ray player, and the reason I took off one star. I almost took off 2, but it does have a very good picture with 4K Blu Ray & regular Blu Ray, and even makes any regular DVD's look good on my 65" Samsung 4K UHD, so I left at one star deduction.
