Perfect for hiking and boating - and FAST shipping!
I agonized a little over spending more for the GizzMoVest, when there were simple padded bags available for less, but this is exactly what I need. It offers full viewing and operation of my eTrex 30, while wrapping it in a tight, grippy, semi-rigid security blanket. There's no mystery to its operation: press the cordlock ends to slide them, open up the clamshell, and slide in your GPS. Cinch the cord and attach it to something with the tough, plastic snaphook. The lanyard is just the right length to hang it from my pack's shoulder strap and still allow me to hold the GPS out far enough for my old eyes.Obviously, the GizzMoVest leaves the screen exposed. It has a high, cushioning rim around the front of the GPS to protect it against drops onto a flat surface, like a floor, but if you drop it on jagged rocks, the screen's survival is not guaranteed. But you have a lanyard, so you're not going to drop it, right? Buy a clear screen protector for your eTrex. It fits under the GizzMoVest just fine. My screen protector already has a few scratches from my hike last Sunday, though I can only see them when I catch the light just right. The foam is tough, but very low density. If I drop my eTrex in the lake, it will probably bob happily on the surface. But I'm not about to test that with my brand-new toy! [I just re-read the product description, and GizzMoVest says it does NOT add floatation. If your worried, clip some kind of float into the lanyard. The eTrex is rated to survive a short-term dunking.]I was confused at first by the buttons. The buttons on the GPS stick out a little, of course, but this case is indented over the buttons. Until I got that through my thick skull, I was pressing on the raised part between the buttons, wondering why it was so hard to operate. Press on the indents. There are no button labels on the case, but the eTrex has only a few buttons. You won't need labels.Other reviewers have complained that the case should include a mini-carabiner to hang top-up. They're right -- sort of. Go to any place that makes keys, and buy a mini-carabiner in exactly the right size and color you want. They're dirt cheap. Give the cord on your GizzMoVest a little slack, run the carabiner though the part at the top, and cinch the cord again. Now, with the lanyard clip, you have redundant attachments to your pack. Your GPS is not getting away without your permission. And SHIPPING! I ordered this case along with the GPS, a screen protector, and a bike mount, all with ground shipping. My GizzMoVest arrived four days before anything else. These people act like a small start-up company, desperate to please their customers. You'll see that when you read their warranty, too. They make a great product, get it to you fast, and back it up all the way.Amazon sells a variety of products to protect your eTrex. If you're going to stow the unit in a pack and never look at it, get a padded bag. If you want to actually use the thing, get this GizzMoVest. My only complaint is the color choice, the same as Henry Ford offered for his Model T. I would have bought a bright color if it was offered. But it's doubly-attached to my pack, so I should never have to search for it.

Easily modifiable to fit your spine carabiner - YEA!!
Overall, I'm impressed with the case. Its a nice snug fit; buttons are easily accessible and respond as well as if the case wasn't there; and the ridge on the top is taller than the joystick so that little joystick FINALLY has a little protection. (Why Garmin didn't mold a little plastic "moat" around that in the first place is beyond me).The biggest thing I didn't like was relying on the lanyard to secure the GPS to me; because looking at the design, the living hinge opposite the lanyard is the ONLY thing keeping the GPS "attached" to the lanyard. Meaning - if the living hinge fails - both sides of the case open up and the GPS goes flying. Maybe hiking along known trails isn't that bad to lose your GPS, but when I'm out in the wild hunting....thats another story! (You lose your GPS and you can really be in some trouble). I've used the spine carabiner for years and feel very confident in that keeping the GPS with me (but why Garmin couldn't design it so the GPS hung upside down is another design flaw where I shake my head at them - does garmin engineers even USE their own products in the field?!?) So I took a brand new, #11 scalpel blade and cut out the back panel of the case - so the spine mount can once again fit on the GPS. I shortened the lanyard and looped it into the carabiner so it can't get snagged on anything. Now - the GPS is back to being secured directly to me thru the carabiner and the case "floats"; rather than the case being secured to me and the GPS "floats". The attached pictures show the completed modifications.I am now a happy guy with a secured GPS and the joystick better protected. Just wish GizzMoVest offered this standard in their blaze orange color. IFF I ever do lose this in the field - I'd like every opportunity to find it to get my a$$ home. :-)Perhaps GizzMoVest could create an "open back" version for the future to allow access to the spine; a simple relocation of the lanyard holes with no loss of their original design intent.Love their textured surface - it feels really good in your hand/glove.

Great buy!
This case adds a nice amount of girth to the device which makes it easier to hold. I like the fact that it will protect the entire case. The texture is great as well. One thing that I do agree with, after reading one of the reviews, is that the buttons on the side of the case are indented. I would have expected these to stick out a little bit. Nonetheless, the buttons are still usable but it takes a little bit more work than if the buttons on the case stuck out. It just feels a little bit weird. Other than that, it's a great little case!

Excellent product with room for improvement
I have been incredibly impressed with the quality of this protective cover. It fits my Garmin eTrex 30 perfectly. The material is incredibly tough, and it's grippy in all weather conditions (dry, wet, cold, etc). I hang my device on my shoulder strap of my packs, so it gets a LOT of use. The skin of this cover is strong, and I don't see any signs of distress from the abuse I put it through. While it's not perfect, I would definitely buy it again. In fact, I did. I just bought the same type of cover for my DeLorme InReach SE. This is a MUST have. Be sure to add a screen protector for a fantastic protective combination. The two things that are not perfect are the default plastic clip and shallow side-button indicators. I added a small metal carabiner to my setup since the plastic clip that comes with it is a bit small and irritating to use. Problem solved. However, one potentially serious issue for users will be locating the device side buttons (power, zoom in/out, menu, etc). This exercise can be a real pain in all honesty. They are basically very shallow indentations which are difficult to see, and you really can't feel them, especially with gloves on. I wish these would be replaced with larger buttons that extrude outward (not in), so you can easily see and feel where the buttons are. GizzMoVest, I hope you can fix this! Larger buttons please!
