Great product!
Got tired of people trying to steal gas so I made this instead of trying to fish out sections of torn pipe out of my filler neck...

Works for a '99 Dakota
Was a little concerned about getting a check engine light for evap leak, but this cap didn't give me any issues. You just have to unlock it before removing, don't need to keep the key in or anything. My truck doesn't have a locking fuel door, and with gas prices as high as $5 a gallon around me I don't want to be an easy target for free gas. Probably wouldn't hold up to being pried off, but that's not the goal. So long as they look at it and go "ehhhh, theres more cars here that don't have locking caps, next victim" you'll probably be fine.I will update this in a few months stating how it holds up to use.

Better than I hoped for
I have an old 1996 Jeep cherokee. I thought somebody was siphoning gas out of my car. I'm not sure that's true or I just had evaporation. Since I bought this cap it's amazing how much less I spend and how much I need to put in my car. I mean who knew? I just wanted it to lock. It's amazing. Highly recommend getting this.

Gas cap
I bought 2 of these locking gas caps for my Dodge Dakota & my Chevy Silverado truck. I put the gas cap on the Dodge first. The key would stick and won't turn most of the time. Actually would cut my knuckle . But the biggest complant was after a few hours of driving around, my message center light came on showing something was wrong with my engine. I then visited my mechanic and he did a computer check . The computer showed that I had a fuel leak. The gas cap wasn't closing right and was leaking gas fumes. He cleaned up the computer and I installed my old cap and everything was fine. Plus the box the cap came in didn't have that it was for a Dodge or Chevy. I had to see for myself which cap fit the best. Go to your truck dealer and buy your locking gas cap. Might be a little more money, but you'll get the right one. I sent them both back for my credit back.

Good Replacement Gas Cap, but Potential Issues With Modern Vehicle Sensors
Caused an issue with the vehicle's sensors, tripping the "check engine" light every time it was used.

Very good gas cap. I put a lanyard on it.
My previous locking cap finally gave up the ghost. It wouldn't unlock so I took a mini pry bar to it. It snapped off like it was made of balsa wood. POS. It was always acting up and I really should have replaced it long ago. This is the first time I've shopped for a locking gas cap in 15 years. I read the reviews here for various caps and everyone's complaining about how flimsy they all are. But I have to say that even though this Stant 10501 isn't built like a brick house it is far more solid to the feel than my old one and the locking mechanism is far more user-friendly. And I don't think that the average gas siphoning thief will break off a cap to get yer gas. It would make too much noise and most would just prefer to move on to the next vehicle that doesn't have a locking cap. They are a cowardly and lazy lot.My old cap had a lanyard. This Stant doesn't ship with one. I feel the need for one so I don't drive off without my gas cap, so I customized it. It now has a lanyard: I attached a 12" steel fishing lure leader to it. I drilled a small hole on the cap to which I clipped the lure snap hook and the swivel keeps it from binding up when turning the cap. The opposite end just has the clamped loop passing through the small hole in my fuel port housing and a common key ring on the backside keeps it from pulling out. Simple. Cost less than 50 cents. Took 10 minutes. I attached pics to this product page.

Amazon (& Stant) part finders not 100% correct.
Ordered this Stant 10501 locking gas cap to replace a 15+ year old one on my 1998 Ford Ranger that had just failed emissions test.I used the Amazon Part Finder to find the correct replacement. The photo showed threads on cap, to screw it on, where the old cap was a "bayonet" fitting. I thought the Amazon part finder that showed this as a replacement for the truck was in error, so I checked the Stant website part finder which also showed #10501 fitting. So I figured the photo was a stock photo of a generic cap and ordered it. But it was the threaded cap and did not fit, so I found the correct Stant 11502 locally. The 10501 had a better quality lock than the 11502, and both seemed to be able to last 15+ years as the previous one.Amazon happily refunded my purchase price for this error, and I recommend Amazon for all your auto needs. Just make sure the part does fit.

QUALITY PRODUCT
A nice, used, small pick up was bought recently for the wife to use in her work. For her peace of mind, we bought locking lug nuts and this locking gas cap. Mechanics we know told us Stant was the best and we ordered the one that fit per the Amazon filter for this vehicle. Arrived timely with two keys. Old one had a tether to be removed. Once done, this Start fit perfectly, both keys worked, and it is easy for the wife to use and she is happy. As the saying in Texas goes - "If Mama ain't happy, ain't nobody happy!". Worked for me!
