BOI is a power trip, some runs will be bad, but they will make the overpowered ones even sweeter.
This version is easily the definitive console version.Vita was the king of BOI portable but after waiting nearly a year and a half just for Afterbirth news of a working Vita port.. and still no announcement in sight. I'd given up hope I would get to play Greed Mode on a bus ride or in bed, let alone coop on the go.But now? Oh baby. With all those sweet content additions this is practically a new game from BOI Rebirth, and it's portable, with coop options anywhere you go, give a joycon to a friend and they will learn to cry the enemies to death like the rest of us, one tear at a time. For the price you get a butt load of content with more unlocking almost everytime you play (quick deaths aside). And why should you support this physical release? Is Stickers (for a limited time) not enough? How about an actual manual? You know it now as a slip of paper that offers warranty info and a flashing lights warning.. but back in the day they were practically game Bibles, in some games, the only story available was to be found in the booklet that came with your game...The Fabled Manual is back with a vengeance, it's a perfect throwback to Zelda, and you can only get it if you buy physical. What do you have to lose?So if you've read this far, I assume you know BOI but if you don't it's this:Top down shooterOne life w/refillable heartsGameplay takes place in rooms on a grid based floor. Each room is a little random and each floor has a theme and a collection of bosses. Each floor has a chance of being an alternative floor, say you normally start in basement but occasionally you start in a cave for example.Every enemy has multiple versions with some surprising attacks to them. And the most interesting part of the game: the power-ups.. they are too varied to list here but say you feel like you're having a bad run, your tears are basically pea shooters... But then you get a pair of wings and the ability to vomit deadly Brimstone at your enemies and suddenly you feel powerful.BOI is a power trip, some runs will be bad, but they will make the overpowered ones even sweeter.

Stop crying little Isaac, we are here to save you!
First: Imported it via Shipment to Europe cause the EU cartridge is not yet to be in store.. worked perfectly fine and had my preorder stickers within the package, yey.Now to the game:It seems small at first sight but then.. wow!The game itself is hard to be honest. I would call myself a hardcore gamer and still I find myself losing several times due to heavy monster situations/my equipment not being best for the situation. So for a very casual gamer this game might turn out to be frustrating due to its difficulty. As long as you can deal with the "trial&error" way you will find it entertaining like I did. It's all about exploring the dark world which this game belongs to and discovering every possible secret to help you on your torture journey. And hell yes, there are ALOT of secrets to discover and that is where the game shines. Find your stuff, mix up your stuff and try your best to make it till the final encounter.. or play one of the many special additional challenges.I am very happy to finally see this title on the switch. It plays perfectly fine in all modes and I feel comfortable while controlling lil Isaac. A perfect game for the new Nintendo Switch.So.. long story short:If you are looking for a challenge that mixes kinda retro design with a darkish theme and may entertain you for hours of collecting new stuff - grab that game :)

Newer copies do NOT get stickers or the manual, but still a great buy!
This game is great! If it weren't for the Amazon discount I would have bought the digital copy instead. Some people are complaining about the lack of manual and stickers from their copies. The manual and stickers were only for those who pre-ordered or were lucky enough to get some of the extra pre-order batch. The cover art has changed and the developers did announce that they were making another physical batch of BOI with this new cover art with Isaac with wings. This copy does not include any stickers or manual but just the case and game itself. Now to the actual game. BOI on the Switch includes the base game and also the two DLCs. If you bought this on Steam the price would be $35 compared to the Switch's price of $40 for the same content. The difference being is that the Switch offers portable play which I would rather have. You also get a physical copy that you can resell if you grow tired of the game (but I doubt you will). The game itself is a lot of fun and can be played for a small gaming session or for hours on end. You also have the option of multiplayer with up to 4 players. I would recommend this over the steam version because it is nice to have a portable version of the game to play if you're waiting for your car to get fixed or any small wait times.

The best version of this game I've played!
I have the previous versions of this game on a huge range of other systems, so I obviously love it. Even with having all those other versions, however, this updated and expanded release is still well worth it to me. For one, performance is top-notch, with no hint of slow-down. For another - and this surprised me the most - the Switch's controls, with the two JoyCon's docked on the sides, seem ideally suited for the game. It controls great with the two analog sticks. The game also looks great on the Switch's screen, almost like it was tailor-made. Finally, to top it all off, the packaging is actually pretty nice, with a manual and stickers. This is a far cry from almost every modern game, where you basically get the media and a case. The game itself is quite difficult, particularly given the fact that it generates a new game world each and every time, so you may not get access to particularly helpful items with each new instance. With that said, this is the type of game where you do get a little better each time out. It's the perfect game for both quick and longer sessions, which kind of speaks to the Switch's own flexibility. I highly recommend it.

The Power ups will make you yearn for more. Just don't expect them to make it any easier.
The Binding of Isaac is quite a good game, albeit rather repetitive in nature. However, the monotony of gameplay is broken down with the sheer volume and variance of power ups you can find as well as the level layouts and enemies being randomly generated. Great for the switch as you can pick it up, play a level of the dungeon in quick, interspersed bursts. Or die and justify a rage quit by sending the console to sleep. The only disappointment for myself was the resolution of the whole game. It's a nitpick at best, but even in handheld mode, the artwork is somewhat diminished by the blurred contours throughout the whole experience. It's definitely not a game for everyone, and it's certainly not a renaissance in gaming, but what Binding of Isaac sets out to do, it does it right (and is quite repulsive while doing so). I cannot believe Nintendo allowed a game of such graphic depravity on their platform, even if it is in a cartoonish extrapolation, but the Switch is a better console for having it.
