If you are looking for a diet book, this book isn't for you. If, however, you want to change the way you eat, feel better, and keep the weight off that you lose then buy this book.The first section of the book explains why preservatives and artificial food additives are bad and why eating freshly made foods can increase the metabolism. The second section is divided into two phases of recipes; the first being a month-long detoxification phase to clear out preservatives and artificial substances out of the body, and the second phase is a more broad set of recipes that is less restrictive on what you can eat.If you do plan to try this book, you need to be prepared to:1) Be able to follow recipes and cook for yourself or have some one to do so for you. No fast food or frozen dinners.2) Have time to cook. While some of the recipes are quick, others take quite a bit of time. I can make grilled chicken in about 15 minutes, but making soup can take nearly an hour. (I double or triple recipes and keep left-overs for time-consuming recipes.)3) Buy kitchen utensils and appliances. The book lists useful ones. I haven't bought the full list, but the ones I have do really help make things easier.Now you must be asking yourself, "If I get this book, will it really work?" In my case, I have been seriously overweight for most of my life. I have tried other diets, but none seemed to work. At my last weigh-in at my doctor's office before getting this book I was 344 lbs and wearing a size 50 jeans. After 5 months using these recipes I returned and weighed in at 279 lbs wearing a size 44 jeans (That is 65 lbs in 5 months).Try it, stick with it, and it will work for you. The food tastes great due to the spices, so I never have a problem wanting something I shouldn't have. I really recommend this book to anyone who needs to take off the weight and keep it off naturally.Edit:I thought I should update this since it has been one year now since I bought this book. I am currently down to 234 pounds and a size 40 (meaning I have lost 110 pounds and 10 inches in the past year since I bought this book). Over the course of the year I have branched off from using the recipes alone, but I have always following the guidelines found in the first section. I still recommend this book and have done so for many of my friends and coworkers when they ask me what I did to lose weight.

Great recipes
I am a great fan of Mark Hyman having first been introduced to his work through "What the Heck Should I Cook" Cookbook. The recipes are all wonderfully flavorful and unique, but do require quite a few special ingredients. This book's recipes are much simpler but still very tasty. The only reason that I am giving this a 4 instead of 5 is there are only a couple of photo's at the center of the book and I now realize how much I enjoy seeing the finished products when selecting what I prepare. However I still very much would recommend this book.

The right way to eat deliciously
I also have Dr. Hyman's Ultra Metabolism book which also has some fantastic recipes. In fact, the recipes in his first book are the best ones. This book gives you a more extensive array of delicious options to a healthy way of eating. Dr. Hyman's information is so valuable if you are truly interested in feeding your body the way it was meant to be fed for optimum performance. I'm a weight loss surgery patient and continue to look for more information to maintain my weight loss for a life time[. Losing the weight was fairly easy, but keeping it off is always a challenge. Dr. Hyman offers a lifestyle change that supports my weight maintenance and at the same time aligns with my new beliefs about food and a healthy lifestyle as I talk about in my book FAT NO MORE - LONG TERM SUCCESS FOLLOWING WEIGHT LOSS SURGERY.[ASIN:0615257305 Fat No More - Long Term Success Following Weight Loss Surgery]] Why would I go to the trouble to lose all this weight to become healthy and then continue to eat unhealthy? Weight loss, not so much
While the recipes were fine, where I felt the book fell short was in putting them into an eating plan, say for the day. For instance, the breakfast sausages, what do I eat them with? Eating 1 sausage for breakfast is not very appealing. However in Phase || one could have it with an "egg" maybe. As for entree's, what would balance them out for the meal?In the beginning I did not have to "clean out" all my food as I pretty much eat very well. I was more concerned with possible allergies to some of the "good" foods I do eat. After about 3 weeks I did notice a calming down of my digestive system including elimination. Bread was the first food I added back and began to notice some bloating and I felt my body was trying to figure out what was happening, so I stopped it right away and every thing settled down again. Soooo is it the wheat, we'll see. Have had eggs with no problem. The beat goes on.

Surprisingly delicious!
This is one of the most useful cookbooks I have ever had. Whether or not you are trying to use Dr. Hyman's method, these recipes are healthful, easy, and remarkably delicious. I have tried a majority of the recipes in the book and have come across very few that didn't work for me. The book has several easy and delightful vinaigrettes, making it easier for me to love salads. There are also wonderfully surprising ways with vegetables like Broccoli with Lemon and Kalamata Olives, which I did not expect to be good, but turned out to be magic. Also love the Black Bean Confetti Salad, and the Chicken Salad with Tarragon and Pears. The Brazil Nut Bars are great to have on hand for a snack, in order to avoid becoming too hungry and going for some junk food. I tried the method for several months, and it was good for me. But I kept on using the cookbook long after I was done using the method.

Loads of Great Information
I am more than happy with this book which has been very well put together step by step taking you through how this works when put into practise. I intend using this for weight loss as it has loads of great ideas to get started. Each recipe gives details of calories, carbs etc, etc to help work out what to eat. I ordered a used copy which arrived quickly and in very good condition.
