Easy to learn and played quite quickly
We played this with a games group, and ordered it when it was reduced! Can be played with 2 people up to 5. Works well enough with 2 - not all games do. Small box, good for travel. Doesn’t need much space to play, but you do need to lay some cards out. Only takes half an hour, so you can have several games in the time a big board game would take.

Instructions are not in English - you need to know someone to play this.
I love this game, especially because you can play with 2 people. It comes from Germany but does contain English rules.Once you know how to play it is great fun. It's incredibly transportable. That said, you do need a larger surface area to play on. Your cards do get spread out.You can also purchase an expansion pack which makes it more interesting as you become more skilled. I would say it's a good mix of strategy and luck. It's not at a strategic level of RIsk, but it's also not at a luck level of Skip-BO.

Easy to play, very nice cards, great game.
I boight this game as a gift for a friend who loves games. We played a few times just the two of us and it was a nice surprise. When you read the instructions, it looks very confused, we had to see a video on youtube to clarify the rules. It's easier than it looks to play, in the second game we were both aware of some possible strategies.Definetely we will play again, and we want to try it with more players to see how it is.Be careful when you are playing, if you are too greedy, you can loose your turn! The only bad point I see about it, is the system to win or loose.

Great 10 minute game
My husband and I play a lot of euro style games, many of which take quite a while to play and I have had my eye on this card game for quite some time as a quick, portable game that we can take away with us. We got straight in to it and after one game we were hooked, wanting to play several more times in a row. It's a push your luck game where you are weighing up options of gaining coins and hiring assistants to gain more victory points, so there's room for a bit of strategy. It's a lovely easy to grasp concept that we look forward to introducing to our gaming and non-gaming friends.

Great push your luck, quick to learn, quick to play, works well at 2 players as well as more!
I love this game! I wont write a detailed review as there are plenty out there, but I will say this is great if you are looking for a quick to learn, quick to play, game that works great with 2 players as much as it does 5. There are only cards, so no pieces to worry about losing. The double sided cards work great and are a nice feature. This is a small box and travels really well - I took it round Italy and we played in various bars and accommodation. It can take up a small amount of space on the table so great for any occasion. The price is super cheap and no cheaper elsewhere. Even our American cousins can't get it cheaper over there (in fact it's more expensive) so grab this bargain while you can!

Replay value
A common request for our games night's, this game is easy to learn and has great replay value. Keeps players engaged with actions while it's not their turn. A great risk vs reward mechanic and a nice blend of luck and skill. Definitely a must have for a games collection.

Cracking Easily Portable 45 Minute Game
This is a great game for 3-5 people (2 is OK, have played with 6).It's fun, compact, easy to learn and feels quick because there's no attention gaps, you get a chance to act in everyone else's go. We play it a lot and this is a second set for son to take to uni.It appeals to regular gamers and not-really gamers alike. It's worth ditching the plastic tray (for space) and sleeving the cards (2 5/8ths x 3 5/8ths inch sleeves).Port Royal is a push your luck game; you can take "ships" to give you money or buy the crew / assets you need a) get your victory points and/or b) give you playing advantages. And other players pay you commission for your leftover cards. But turn over two ships the same colour and you blow your turn. First to 12 victory points including an expedition wins.

Enjoyable Pirate Cards
An enjoyable push your luck style game. At first glance the instruction manual seems daunting with many different rules to learn, but once you're up and running it gets easier. The mechanics are straightforward, and you can never go wrong with a Caribbean Pirate theme!

My Daughter Stole My Copy
I learned how to play when I went to visit my daughter when she was studying abroad. Her host family in Germany had taught it to her. I went home and immediately bought myself a set. But when my daughter came home, she stole it and took it off to college. Finally I've been able to get myself another copy. I like this one more than the "newer" one with the female pirates. The game is fun to play, though learning the rules is a bit hard the first time. Once you learn, the rules are easy to implement and remember. But I can't play with my daughter anymore, since she is cutthroat and wins every time.

Sencillo y divertido

Buena compra.

One of our favorite card games to play with a group!
One of our favorite card games to play with a group!Port Royal is a push-your-luck style game where you take turn being the harbour master and try to make as much money as possible on your turn...but if you get greedy you could end up empty handed. The rewards could be great though!Adding a bit more depth, you can also hire workers (sailors, captains, admirals) to increase your earning opportunity. The game also gives players the choice of collecting sets and using some (very basic) battle mechanics to increase their ability to make the most money and acquire the most victory points. We play this game with children as young as 6 and have played with 3,4, & 5 players. One of the best things about this game is that there are decisions to make even when it is someone else's turn, also you want to watch to see if your opponents will bust or even do something that earns you coins on their turn! Some of the actions of the cards did take a bit of getting used to and we did have to consult the rules regularly (though briefly) our first few games, but it is worth it as it is a fun competitive game.
