I would say I am very pleased. It does not get stuck on the steps ...
I have a kidney-shaped, deep diving, all-tile pool, so finding a cleaner that navigates the tile and actually moves out of the deep end is difficult. I have spent countless dollars on pool cleaners, and keep coming back to the original Kreepy Krauly. So when the newest version came out, I thought I would give it a try. After using it for the past couple of months, I would say I am very pleased. It does not get stuck on the steps or ladder as previous cleaners have. I have adjusted the float so that is maximally climbs the walls, which is an added bonus. It spends the majority of the time in the deep end of the pool (as most cleaners will), but about 20% of the time it will go to the shallow end, which is fine, since the majority of the debris and dirt migrates to the deep end anyway. Once a week I clean the filters, add chlorine (which I can just drop into the deep end of the pool since it doesn't stain the tile), and use a brush and net on the pool, which takes all of 10 minutes. Some tips that seem to work for me with my Kreepy Krauly. First, I do not use any hose weights. I find that the cleaner actually moves better without any weights, and has less of a tendency to get hung up in various ends of the pool. I have enough hoses that the cleaner can reach the far end of the pool (should have the cleaner come out of the farthest end of the pool plus one extra hose-- I use 11 total). Once a month (when I add chlorine shock), I will transfer the hose closest to the cleaner to the skimmer end, so that the hoses don't develop a "memory" over time, which can lead to the cleaner not traveling in a random pattern and getting stuck in the same places over and over. Since I havee 11 hoses, and rotate them monthly, that means all the hoses travel up and down the line approximately once a year. This has worked well for me. Another thing I found helpful is to not use the "automatic" attachment that is supplied with the cleaner in the skimmer, but rather the one with a variable side-suction dial that comes with some other Kreepy Krauly cleaners. I find that constant suction works best on these cleaners (at least for me), and that less debris and dirt gets trapped in this valve than the automatic one. It also acts as a skimmer, since there is a large enough opening in the suction valve that siphons a good amount of water into the skimmer, and takes in leaves and debris (which end up in the basket by the motor). I have spent countless hours trying to "dial in" these cleaners, and find that no hose weights, maximum climbing on the float, rotating hoses, and constant skimmer pressure works the best. I also like the fact that there are a lot of inexpensive parts available for this cleaner. I buy the disc pads for around $20 on Amazon or E-bay, which seem to last as long and work as well as the $75 versions. I keep spare parts around (wings, flapper, disc seal, etc) just in case. This cleaner requires very little maintenance, and does a better job of cleaning my pool than any other cleaner I have used (regardless of price). So I probably will stop wasting money trying "the next best thing" in pool cleaners, and stick with the tried and true Kreepy Krauly.

Excellent
I've tried other pool cleaners and the Kreepy Krauly is the best. I've only had to replace mine 3 times in 25 years..

You get what you pay for!
We had one of these Pentair attachments with our original installation of our pool and it lasted a long time, when it needed to be replaced we went with a slightly cheaper option (still paid nearly $375) for the cheaper version but it did not last, it did not properly clean the pool and was a waste of our time and money. Went with this original Pentair model this year and it proves to be a quality product and if you want a clean pool without a lot of personal effort, this is the way. Don't try and save money - it will not be a good product.

Blast from the past, 30 years later it's still a hit in pool cleaning.
My uncle had one of these in the 80s when I was a little kid. He called it "creepy crawly" .... Funny here I am 40 now and I just learned it's actual brand name is "Kreepy Krauly". I always just thought he called it that because of the ticking and hopping motion in the pool.So we just bought a house with an unground pool and opened it up for the first time. We knew we were going to need a vacuum and didn't want to spend $1500+ on a Polaris or similar model. So I thought I would go searching to see if the old ticking monster was still available.Setup was a breeze, it took about 5 minutes to put it together out of the box, and drop it in the pool. Plugged it into the skimmer basket, and was instantly rewarded with the glorious memories of childhood as it began ticking and happily winding its way around the pool....Now that it's been running for a few weeks, I can give a more complete description. Overall it is working wonderfully with very little maintenance. Kreepy does occasionally get stuck, particularly in the 2 corners of the shallow end, but usually it is able to vibrate its way out of the corner in time. Once in a while it needs a hand tho.Suction power is good, it does pick up tons of stuff from sand to leaves, worms, and a few pebbles. We also found a frog in the trap one time so far. I did notice the first time it hit that huge pile of gunk in the bottom of the deep end it got clogged up and I wrestled with it to get it all cleaned out again, but eventually I just pulled the whole thing up out of the water, and did a complete dry reset, and it worked great immediately again. Here's where I took away a star however.... While Kreepy works great, it requires a powerful pump with a high flow rate to work at peak performance. We find quite frequently when the filter pressure gets up to about 10 psi higher than fresh back washed running pressure, Kreepy stops hopping around because the flow rate is not strong enough. We have a 1.4 effective HP pump (brand new motor) with a 200# sand filter on a 16x32 pool that has served for 20 years with no major problems, so I would expect that the filter system and flow rate is appropriate for the pool size. Even running 100% of the pump capacity thru Kreepy it still gets bogged down and stops working when the flow slows a little bit.Overall tho, Kreepy is doing a great job and the price is very affordable if you just need a simple solution to automatic pool cleaning.
