Canon TS5120 Wireless All-In-One Printer with Scanner and Copier: Mobile and Tablet Printing, with Airprint(TM) and Google Cloud Print compatible, Black

I received this printer several days ago after my previous Canon Pixma died. That Canon printer was similar to this one and lasted four years and two changes of location. I did pay about $100 for that unit and selecting this one at half that price did give me pause. After reading some of the other comments I admit to some hesitation but I'm happy to say the set-up and printing went as smoothly as possible. There were a couple of situations I had read about-failure of the unit to draw paper and difficulty getting a computer to recognize the printer-so I was on the look-out for those problems particularly. Here's some observations: There are several orange pieces of tape and protective pieces of plastic that must be removed. This includes on the printer itself as well as the provided ink cartridges. And because the printer is mostly plastic it should be lifted and carried from the box by placing your hands on each side of the unit and not on the front and back. When loading the paper, don't overload it and be sure the paper guard is secured properly after loading the tray. Both issues can cause the unit to fail to draw paper. There is a booklet of instructions included as well as a download site to assist in set-up but I recommend using the included DVD if you have a DVD slot on your computer. This eliminates almost all decision-making including accessing your wireless router. In other printers I've had it was necessary to input the security key for your router which often led to difficulties and failure. No such problem exists here as it will automatically interrupt your router to secure the signal and turn it back on when completed. Before I began, I also deleted all files from my computer that were necessary for the previous printer. I can see where this set-up might have difficulty if previous files are present, particularly if you're installing a printer from the same manufacturer. Now, because I have a slow download speed, the entire set-up took more than 30 minutes and at times I found myself wondering if something had gone wrong as the set-up appeared stuck. But patience was finally rewarded as the set-up concluded. The DVD will print a test page once your set-up is complete to determine if there is printer head alignment issue. This might be another area of issue for some people although it's easy enough to run a printer head alignment test if there is a problem. I didn't experience that either. After my set-up I also was prompted by the DVD tutorial if I wanted to print from some other device-for me I wanted that option for my cellphone. That, too, was easy. I downloaded the app from Google play (I have an Android) and again, by following the prompts on my phone it connected immediately to my printer. It was necessary to pick my printer from a list on the phone as well as picking the type of paper in the printer, but those were easy. I've since printed a number of various pages and not once have I experience a paper draw problem. Certainly if you're going to print a lot of pages and if you do that frequently, then this isn't the printer for you. But if you're like me, who occasionally prints a page or a few pages, then I highly recommend this printer. Yes, the ink is expensive, and what comes with the printer isn't a lot, but at this price for a reliable good printer, go for it. Hope this helps.

I am not much into writing reviews but in this case i will. When i see other reviews knocking this printer down it makes me wonder what some people expect to find in a printer that cost much cheaper then one would expect. First of all, this printer is very solid and not cheap in design. It is very user friendly and performs extremely well. You could not buy ink for the price that this printer sells for. Customer service is one of the best. (if you should need them) I suggest you get off your Negative Horse and remember you get what you pay for. If you have any Negative feedback in your head, keep it to your self and don't purchase this printer. Because as i see it any printer you buy will not satisfy you and you will find fault no matter what. (A message to Cannon and Amazon) This is a great product for the money and I am very satisfied with my purchase. I recommend this printer to any one who is looking to save money and enjoys its performance. jg

OK, I will update this to 3 stars because it does work well despite the reasons below I don’t like it. The main confusing thing I had setting it up was enabling the wireless network printing. HINT - There appeared in my list of printers the printer and an XPS version of the printer. You must select the XPS printer in order to send a job to it wirelessly.I'm still really disgusted by the flimsy paper tray but I will say it holds more paper than I expected but still very flimsy. Because of that cheap tray, you have to place it on a completely solid base larger than the entire footprint of the printer which I didn't have to do with the older model and also I didn't have to use the top paper feed for envelopes so I was able to use it on a book shelf. My older and cheaper Canon printer was extremely compact and I hoped for the same with this model which looked very similar. I ended up having to keep my old printer to use simply as a base to place my new printer on top of because of that flimsy paper tray which REALLY is annoying.None the less, it works well and print quality is amazing for those cheap cartridges.I had a similar older model which worked fine for my simple document printing needs and prefer having only a single color cartridge and a single black cartridge instead of constantly having to replace the 4 or 5 cartridges "high quality" photo printers require. Since my document needs are simple and I never do photo printing, these cheap cartridges do just fine printing B&W or color documents. I bought this one because it has the same small footprint as my old one, and uses the exact same cartridges which I had a bunch of which left over when the death counter ran out (read below if interested in explanation on the Canon printer death page counter).Boy was I disappointed compared to my older even cheaper Canon. Although this one weighs significantly more, the plastic parts are thinner and more flimsy. The paper tray on this one is so fragile it is a joke! I can't imagine it is not going to break sooner or later and that won't be under warranty because "I" broke it when in fact if it breaks it will be due to poor design on Canon's part. I'm going to have to handle like I'm "walking on eggshells". The paper tray also holds barely half as much paper as my old one did and envelopes must be fed from the top. One of the features I liked about the older model is that input and output including envelopes were all front load and front output so it fitted nicely on a book shelf with little headroom required. This one fails in that regard. You must feed envelopes from top so you need 8 inches headroom.As several people state it is the most flimsy, fragile, and prone to cheap plastic parts you'll ever see.About the death counter:The reason I had to replace my old printer which was working just perfectly fine is because Canon decides after a certain number of prints to make the printer unusable because the ink absorber could start overflowing after a while making a mess. This may be a good thing but I'm handy at fixing things and even though when I started getting ink absorber warnings, I thoroughly cleaned the ink absorber, and the printer was working perfectly fine it stopped dead working when the predetermined number of prints had been printed. I spent hours on the internet to learn older Canon models had a way to reset the death counter to zero so I could have at least continued using the old printer until I used up the $40+ of ink I still had on hand. No dice. With the new models you cannot reset the counter so you must throw away a perfectly functional printer and throw away your ink stock too! The Canon newer models just stop when a certain number of prints is reached with no possible way to reset the counter. You get a certain number of prints and that's it. (Think Porky Pig - That's all folks).Still after upgrading the number of stars from one to four, I am considering an Epson Eco printer next time.

I have had this printer for a few years now and she is still printing like a champ. Print margins have to be adjusted sometimes but otherwise great color, fits perfectly on my little desk, and it's not too loud. I love it. Ink cost is about 60$ and how fast you go through it really depends on how much and often you print. It prints pictures really well. None the less a great purchase.
