The Chevy Chase National Lampoon's Vacation Collection (4 Disc Box Set) [1983] [DVD]

This box set of National Lampoons vacation films contains some of the funniest films I have ever seen.The original vacation was released in 1983 and follows the Griswald family across America for their summer holiday to Wallyworld in their new station wagon. The catalogue of disasters that they encounter along the way makes this a laugh a minute film and one of my favourites.The second film, European Vacation, was released in 1985. This follows the family around Europe on a holiday they have won on a TV show called Pig in a Poke. Their German adventures have me crying with laughter every single time I watch it and I have watched all these films many times.Christmas Vacation is an absolute classic film, I don't feel it is christmas until I have watched this! The Griswalds entertain their families and loved ones (and not so loved ones) at their home. It is filled with all the calamities you come to expect from them but the edge is taken off with an egg nog served in a moose glass. This is my all time favourite christmas film.Vegas vacation was the newest of the 4 films and the children are all grown up for their adventures on the Vegas Strip, I don't feel that this film is quite as good as the previous three but still a worthwhile watch, a typical Chevy Chase extravaganza of calamities.I highly recommend this set of films to anyone who likes a slightly slapstick style of comedy.

This boxset contains 4 movies of The Griswolds (Dad, Mam, Son and Daughter), and I still find them funny years later.Disk1. The Griswolds travel across America to Wally's World a popular theme park. On route they cause havoc and mayhem, meet his wife's cousin and their large brood of kids. On route the Aunt dies and they leave her in the back garden of another cousin (who's not at home).When they finally get to Wally World it is shut.....Disk2. The Griswolds win a TV Competition which is a trip to Europe. Once again, Havoc and Mayhem follow them everywhere as they visit the U.K., France, Germany and Italy with a few fights on route and a very large phone bill.....Disk3. At home this time for Christmas, and a house full of family and lots of christmas lights. Cousin Eddie turns up in his campervan with some of his brood....Disk4. Off to Vagas. He gets the gambling bug and drop lots of money on many of the tables. Cousing Eddie is there once again, adding his own humor.If you like a good laugh, then watch this, but not with the Kids as the Certificate is a 15!

This is a classic small collection of the four National Lampoon holiday films, starring Chevy Chase and Beverly D'Angelo. The films span some 14 years, but all (even the much later made Vegas Vacation) are classic Griswald or is that Griswold films. The spelling of the family name changes over the years, while the two children alter from film to film, but Chevy and Beverly are ageless (only outdone by Christie Brinkley who looks exactly the same in film 4 as she did in film 1 fourteen years earlier).The films are good fun that keep (on giving) you chuckling viewing after viewing. The language used in the early films has disappeared by Vegas Vacation making this more suitable family viewing. You don't have the feeling of watching a film, but rather sharing the adventures and calamities of a non-average American family on vacation.This is a good priced 4 DVD set, although it is disappointing that the promised Theatrical trailer for Vegas Vacation, outtakes for Christmas vacation and Beverly's commentary on European Vacation are missing. Extra though are a commentary by Chevy Chase on European Vacation and a commentary on Christmas Vacation.

Yes National Lampoon is silly, it's crazy, it's over the top. But it is fun and at times very very funny.This box set contains all four films. First up is Vacation where the family take a road trip across America.Next up is European Vacation. Then it's Christmas Vacation and finally Vegas Vacation.What is so great with these films is that it's slapstick comedy that feels like you are watching a good old Cary Grant black and white classic from the 30s.Chevy Chase is simply irrestibale as bungling Clark Griswold. And watch out for his kids who change after every film, which is of course noted by Chase.The first 3 films are the real classics, with Christmas Vacation being a surprise entry. Vegas has been criticised quite a bit but actually its not all that bad.Altogether- HOLIDAY ROAD.

Chevy chase has to one of the funniest actors in many a long year. He found his niche with the Lampoons movies and here they are collected in one set. For me the first two are the best and are still funny after watching them many times. Chevy is brilliant as Clark Griswold with his ever suffering wife and kids. The american vacation has clark win a holiday to the aptly named 'Walley world' theme park in the west of the country. He is forced to bring the mother-in-law who dies on the trip , so he straps her to the roof of the station wagon. They all go to sleep in the car on the trip and it crashes off the highway into a ditch. They finally reach the theme park only to find it closed and cLark is so angry he forces it to open up. The last two films struggle for laughs but this is still a good set to watch again and again. Of the Dvd's there are no extras at all which is a missed chance and a pity. Thus only the four star rating on the strength of the movies alone.
