28-Day FAST Start Day-by-Day

The perfect support for starting your intermittent fasting lifestyle
Gin Stephens has done it again with a thoughtfully designed book to help people kick off their intermittent fasting (IF) practice in the most sustainable way possible.I learned of Gin last year when I heard her speak on the Zoe podcast. I've been a lifelong yo-yo dieter, spent countless dollars and hours on every system and plan known to man, only to find whatever weight I lost every single time I went off-plan. I'd even tried IF before but was not following a "clean fast" as Gin teaches, so I quickly gave up due to becoming extremely hangry. After reading her Fast. Feast. Repeat. (FFR) book, I dove into the IF lifestyle again, this time armed with the knowledge of how to do it the best way, and I never looked back. I joined her Delay, Don't Deny community for additional support and learned a lot more about how to tweak my plan until it's truly easy.As Gin describes, IF is a health plan with a side of weight loss and I've seen great results in both areas. Lowered my blood pressure, my A1C, lost inches everywhere as well as 15 lbs. My mood and energy levels are dramatically better, too. And there's no calorie counting, point or macro tracking, weird food lists, punishing exercise routines or foods you have to swear off. Total freedom from food obsession. This latest book provides the FFR concepts but on a daily schedule for the first 28 day starting period, in more of a workbook format. This is perfect for those of us who need to ease into the practice or who may need to brush up on our fasting protocol. I plan to do the 28 day FAST start again, this time with Gin's Delay, Don't Deny online community, to refresh and strengthen my IF practice in 2024 and work on bringing my body fat percentage down a bit more. (Body recomposition is another fabulous result of fasting!) Then I'll be giving my extra copies of this book to friends and family who are interested in starting IF but haven't yet.Humans have always fasted, throughout history. It's the way our bodies are supposed to function. Somewhere along the way, someone (I'm looking at you, food industry!) led us astray into thinking we needed to eat all day long, to keep our metabolism fires burning. It's absolutely false. And I'm so grateful to have this knowledge now so for the rest of my life, I'll be free to eat what I want, without the need for a restrictive diet afterward to correct any damage done.I encourage anyone who is interested in improving their health to pick up a copy of Fast. Feast. Repeat and then a copy of this book. (I have FFR on my Kindle for reference and then this book in hard copy, to write in.) This is life-changing advice. You'll never need to diet again.

NOTE: It's a 28-day FAST Start day-by-day guide and NOT a complete guide to IF.
It says it right there on the cover of the book and on the very first page of the book it of the "Welcome! Start Here" section it states that the book is meant to be a companion to Fast. Feast. Repeat. and if you could only get one book. F.F.R. is the one to get. The author also states this FAST Start guide was created because some readers were overwhelmed by all the info in F.F.R. or found the book too long. That is how this guide was born.Think of this guide as the Cliff's Notes or the TLDR; version of Fast. Feast. Repeat. It has condensed information and tells the IFer exactly what to do to either start or restart intermittent fasting. The book is broken down into 28 days. Each day consists of short sections. Each day starts with checking off which fasting method you plan to use and a place to write your personal goals for the day.Next is Daily Lesson(s) from Gin followed by a brief a summary of that info. After that is a Daily Inspirational Spotlight of other IFers and the advice they have offer. The days then wraps up with a How Did It Go section that has a checlist of positive things you might have achieved that day, a fast check-in to rate how you felt during the fast, a checklist to record strategies you used, an Eating Window check-in to record your original goal length and what your actual fast length was (this will be GREAT in helping establish which time frame works best for you), lines to write what went well and what you struggled with during the fast, a few lines to record non-scale victories (NSVS), a Reflections section with a few lines to record moments you listened to your body, AHA moments, and whatever is on your mind,The whole day wraps up with Preparing for Success where you write tomorrow's goals.Whew! That's a lot of detail but if you read this review, you'll know what you're getting into.I highly recommend this book if you want a quick-start to IF and if you want to have a physical log of your progression through the first 28 days. I find it very help to help me pinpoint specific times when I felt hungriest during the fast and I realized those were the times I was very busy at work and didn't drink water very often. I tweaked my water intake (kept a full water bottle by my desk at all times then set an alarm on my iphone to chime every so often to remind me to stop to take a drink) and I found the hunger issues disappeared. If you have trouble retaining the information from Fast. Feast. Repeat, I strongly recommend getting the audiobook, narrated by Gin. I have listened to it twice so far and it's helping to reinforce the IF/health information and it's making fasting soooo much easier.

An invaluable resource for the IF lifestyle
As an RN, and someone who suffers from an autoimmune disease, I'm a firm believer in "Food Is Medicine". What and how we eat has a profound influence on our health. As an intermittent faster and a fan of Gin Stephens, this is an excellent book to ease your way into IF. A wonderful companion to her book Fast, Feast, Repeat, this book holds your hand as you navigate the first 28 days. But if you want a more in depth explanation of the details and the science behind IF, don't neglect to read her book Fast, Feast, Repeat. In fact, I think it's imperative to own both books. An invaluable resource for the intermittent fasting lifestyle, whether you choose IF for weight loss or for the health benefits. I highly recommend the paperback vs the e-book so you can write in the pages and easily refer back to earlier chapters. I bought the paperback book after reviewing the kindle version. This is the starter book but if you only want to read one book, I recommend her prior book, Fast, Feast Repeat. Not everyone wants the science....if that is you then try this quick start!Don't miss the 2 podcasts Gin Stephens hosts: Intermittent Fasting Stories, and Fast, Feast, Repeat, Intermittent Fasting for Life.

Excellent Companion Plan to Fast.Feast. Repeat.
This is a companion action plan/guide to the bestselling and life-changing book: Fast. Feast. Repeat. This book is a supportive 28-day guide on how to implement all the info, ideas and strategies outlined in Fast. Feast. Repeat. This book will be most helpful in paper format or used with a journal if you purchase the Kindle or Audio version. For best results, pair this book with the first book: Fast. Feast. Repeat., which is excellent, very comprehensive and has helped many people (including me) to radically transform their health!

An exciting way to start fasting
I found fasting from a Yoga teacher back at the end of 2018. I then purchased Gin previous book Fast, Feast Repeat and this is honestly the greatest book for fasting; I have others but this is the one I always reach for to check back in with - the ultimate factor being the Clean Fasting advice, it's a complete game changer!I have shared FFR with friends and some immediately took to it but others it has taken a bit longer have it develop into a life style. I have purchased this new 28 day fast start book to follow the day by day to experience the journey again, even though I have been fasting for five years I have no doubt I will discover new and forgotten nuggets of wisdom to enrich my own journey and things that I can also share.I have followed Gin's advice and purchased a hard copy of the book as there are parts that are like a workbook to record data and insights along the way. I already have the audio version to listen to on the morning dog walk and then I can contemplate the days advice/lessons before filling in my workbook. I will also be joining in with the online community as there is a group of members starting at day one one Jan 4th 2024.
