I had to use my protection plan, and Asurion made it easy. They gave me a gift card for the purchase amount even before I had a chance to send back the product.

Don’t purchase without Asurian protection plan
I absolutely love having my items protected with Asurian. The process to submit a claim is super easy you call them and the send you an ups return label via email and you just send the item back and they refund to your Amazon account as a gift card. If you order an item and forget to apply the Asurian protection just give them a call they provide the code for you to put in the search field on your Amazon account and you purchase the protection wait 48 hrs call them and they will apply it to your item not sure if you can do it months after purchase but within the first few days I have done it. Just knowing that your items are protected for a fraction of the cost is so comforting Love love love Asurian!

The protection plan uses misleading information
Every experience I've had with asurion on has not been the best. Staff in the beginning were very rude and unwilling to help you. However several years later at least the staff are kind. I was sold as protection plan with a pair of brand new earbuds that were on sale at the time and it was stated in the sale pitch " if your device cannot be repaired then asurion will send you a new one." Sure enough the Samsung earbuds live broke. When I called to use my protection plan then I paid for I was told they'll be reimbursing me the original price that I paid. I would have never purchased the plan because I knew the item was on sale had I known I would not be getting a new device I would have just paid for the device and been okay with that. The other issue is that once you use it one time no matter if you have a two year protection plan you only get to use it once. The rest of the time on the plan is gone. I've had these earbuds for 6 months they just broke so a year and a half of protection plan is unusable now. These things are not made clear in the sales pitch. Purchase his plan knowing you will probably not be happy with it.
