Defect in Manufacture
Caution!! I pressed the "infrared" button once and the internal camera lens filter went bust. The image is now split in different colours, as if the filter is out of place internally. The camera had barely 3 months of use. The 3 month warranty expired by a couple of days and Canon in Brazil refuses to do the necessary repair, charging me the price of the camera. Why would I repair a camera in which the defect came from the manufacture? Why would I spend to repair a new camera for the equivalent of a brand new one? On top of that, the back and forward experience with Canon left me with a sour taste. They respond sporadically to emails, leaving faithful customers with blank stares.I've bought my entire arsenal of equipment from Canon. I own a Canon 1DX Mark2, 70-200mm 2.8, 24mm 1.4, 50mm 1.2, 24-70mm 2.8, 135mm 2.0, 16-35mm 4.0, 100mm2.8macro, 85mm 1.2, 85mm 1.4. In the past I have owned the 5D, the 5DM2, the 5DM3, and the 80D. I've also owned the previous XF model, the XF300.I did my best to like the camera, despite of it's strange lack of shortcuts to control exposure, gain, etc. Things that other reviewers pointed out. This lack of customer communication, defect in manufacture, let-down in repair, and being unable to adapt to market changes leads me to fundamental questions about the state of the brand. I am looking at the new LUMIX S1H, which Panasonic has put a lot of effort in beating the competition. It has internal IS and it is dedicated to filmmakers, something Canon has always skewed from in their mirrorless cameras.
