Worked very well - very happy
This worked very well. I will need to get more for next year, not sure if I need 2 or 3 total but 1 is not enough because of the wind. Because the trap works off the smells it seemed to be fantastic when the wind blew from the east but when it blew from the south or the west the beetles would overshoot it and end up where I didn't want them. The instructions say to keep the trap quite a distance from what you're trying to protect (in my case a vegetable garden). Next year I will place the trap even further away and I will put some in other areas so I cover my bases with the wind. I love that it has an easily removable container and that I don't have to throw away bags, more earth-friendly and less costly. I would just empty the beetles into a 5-gallon bucket partially full of hot water, carry it to our pond and throw them in for the fish to eat.

Clean and Convenient
While this product costs a bit more than the other traditional bag traps, it is much more effective in my opinion. The trap is more stable, which allows the beetles to fly to their demise with ease. The trap is easy to clean as well. And the beetles won't be able to tear the drain holes to escape. The biggest thing, other than the effectiveness, is the fact that this trap looks a lot better than the others. It is not an eyesore on an otherwise pretty yard. For best effects, combine beetle traps with milky spore, which is a persistent agent applied to the ground which attacks grub and beetle larvae before they emerge from the ground. Applying it to your yard and surrounding yards will make a difference. Also, planting geraniums will help. They eat the flower and plants and die.

worth the money to save my trees from total destruction
Quick and easy to assemble, in particular if you watch the video from another reviewer. I hung it from a shepherds hook, the type that you hang from a tree branch and put bird feeders on, about 20-25 feet from one of the afflicted trees. It was installed shortly before 9a.m. I left for the day and when I returned at 6p.m. the trap was almost full to the top with writhing, disgusting Japanese Beetles. They appeared totally incapable of leaving the trap. I waited until 10p.m., then I opened the trap and dumped them into a bucket of hot water. It didn't kill them, they simply roiled around on top of each other. Next time, I think the water needs to be near boiling, not just really hot. I used tap water after it had run to its hottest temperature. Because I had no "good" way to separate the beetles from the water as they were still alive, I emptied it, water and all, into two doubled up plastic bags and sealed it up tight. They went straight into the trash and were dead the next morning. Today, the trap is about 1/3 full of beetles. Not the impressive display of yesterday, but I believe that is only because I didn't know about these type of traps and the beetles have been out for almost a full month now and have wreaked havoc in our yard, nearly eating 3 ornamental trees. Many of them have probably flown to a new area looking for more things to eat (destroy). I plan on having more of these traps next year in advance of of their appearance. (I know its wishful thinking, but I would give this 5 stars if I somehow didn't have to empty their disgusting, roiling masses into a bucket. To me, 5 stars would be perfect in every way).

Works fantastic, so cool to watch it in action
The media could not be loaded. This trap is amazing. I've been battling Japanese Beetles on my roses by spraying neem oil and drowning them. But within SECONDS of hanging this trap, dozens upon dozens of beetles showed up out of nowhere and started falling right into the trap. It was incredible, I even took a video to show my neighbors. The only down side is I had beetles flying into my head while I gardened as they went on their way to the trap. I know it says one trap should be sufficient for my sized yard but I'm buying two more to spread out. I have a feeling I'm battling the beetles in surrounding yards, too, which is amazing.

Most Effective Japanese Beetle Trap I have found anywhere
The media could not be loaded. I have been using this model of the tanglefoot Japanese Beetle Trap for eight years and have not found a better performing trap. This Japanese beetle trap lasts a long time and there are no bags to dispose of or replace, making this a very economical choice for me.Putting the trap in direct sunlight downwind from the plants you're trying to protect produced the best results. Traps I hang in the shade trap about a third of the beetles that the traps I placed in direct sunlight did.The cylinder shape makes it great for those windy areas and there are holes so rainwater will just wash out of the trap. Those same holes allow the scent from those live caught beetles to also go into the air which attracts even more beetles. UNLESS your beetles die in the trap, dead beetles will deter other beetles and reduce the number you will catch.I empty the traps every day and dump the beetles into HOT Tap Water, no need to use soap or anything else as the heat kills them fast. Then you can compost them, feed wild birds, feed chickens, or your pond fish... our koi love Japanese Beetles.I have tested every Japanese Beetle trap design I could find through the years and this is my favorite so yes, I would definitely recommend it to anyone who is having issues with Japanese Beetles and wants to recycle them with the least amount of waste.

The only thing this trap caught was me
In the spring our house is covered every nice morning by Lady Bugs. I mean hundreds on the front of the house. They also come inside of course. I put this trap outside and left it for about 7 days. Right in the middle of this infestation. I caught one, but that one may have fallen in by accident. The bait did not work. The trap did not work.

It works in theory...
We have so many Japanese Beetles in our yard you could shake them off the tree into a five gallon bucket of water, scoop them and smash them, like forty at a pop. We wanted to keep the numbers down when we couldn't do that, so we bought this. It was recommended on a YouTube video. We only caught two beetles the rest of the summer. Kind of sad...
