Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Diets Dental Chewz Dog Treats: Potential Benefits with Some Trade-Offs
Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Diets Dental Chewz are dental treats formulated to help reduce tartar buildup in dogs. Here's a breakdown of the pros and cons to help you decide if these treats are the right choice for your furry friend:Pros:Veterinary Recommended: These treats carry the Veterinary Oral Health Council (VOHC) seal, indicating they have been accepted as effective in reducing tartar buildup with proper use (feeding two treats daily).Long-Lasting Chew: The long-lasting chew texture can help keep your dog occupied and potentially scrape away plaque and tartar buildup as they chew.Dental Benefits: If effective, these chews could help promote better dental health for your dog, reducing the risk of dental disease.Variety of Sizes: Purina Pro Plan Dental Chewz come in different sizes to accommodate dogs of various breeds and sizes.Relatively Affordable: Compared to some veterinary-exclusive dental chews, these treats are a more affordable option.Cons:Unknown Ingredients: The specific ingredients list might be difficult to find. This can be a concern for dog owners with allergies or those who prefer more transparency about what their pet is ingesting.Mixed Reviews on Effectiveness: While some users report success with reducing tartar, others mention minimal improvement or their dog losing interest in the chews.Potential Digestive Issues: Some dogs might experience digestive upset, especially if not introduced gradually. Not a Substitute for Brushing: Dental chews should be used as a supplement to regular vet checkups and proper dental hygiene practices, like teeth brushing.Overall:Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Diets Dental Chewz offer a potentially effective and affordable way to support your dog's dental health, with the VOHC seal adding credibility. However, the unknown ingredients list, mixed effectiveness reviews, and potential for digestive issues are drawbacks to consider. Here are some additional things to consider before purchasing:Your Dog's Dental Needs: Talk to your veterinarian about your dog's specific dental health and if these treats are suitable for their needs.Your Dog's Preferences: Not all dogs enjoy the taste or texture of dental chews. Consider offering a small sample first to see if your dog likes them.Introduce Gradually: Start with a small piece and monitor your dog for any digestive issues.I hope this review helps you decide if Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Diets Dental Chewz are the right dental treat option for your dog!

Effective & worth it!
Do I like the price for the amount... no. Do I like that they actually really help my dogs breath... no.I LOVE it!!!My dog has the ability to destroy most "indestructible" chew toys in just a few minutes. These last easily 15+ minutes, sometimes 20+. My dog loves them. That is a thing of beauty. My one caveat is if you have a concern about your dog swallowing big pieces of rawhide, this isn't for your dog then. Luckily my blockhead is totally good with that.

My Dog Loves Them, but They’re Gone Too Fast
These dental chews are a hit with my dog—she practically does backflips when I pull one out. They do a great job of keeping her teeth clean and her breath tolerable (which is no small feat). The only downside? They don’t last very long. My dog has them devoured faster than I can say “good dental hygiene.” For the price, I wish they’d keep her busy for a bit longer.Still, they’re high-quality and clearly tasty, so I’ll keep buying them—mostly because I like her excitement. Four stars for happy teeth and an even happier pup!

Popular Chews
Our veterinarian recommended this product to reduce tartar buildup. It is certainly popular with our two dogs. The veterinarian wants a half hour chewing every other day. This has been easily accomplished with our 25 and 30 pound dogs. We will need to see the results with their next exam.

Dental Chews help With Puppy Chewing!!
I have two Rhodesian Ridgeback puppies (4 months & 50 lbs each). They are very active and chew on everything. These dental chews are a lifesaver as the chews , while providing a healthy addition to their dental health , keeps them focused on a good way to direct their need to investigate/chew everything in the world. The chews keep them occupied for hours. And they enjoy them even after the initial flavor is gone. I can’t keep them on hand as they disappear so fast. They are a good size for a dog chew. However , I wish there were a few more in the box. There’s usually five 2”x5” chews/box. They definitely are a great product. The picture included in this review was taken about 2 months ago. Puppies are now 20 lbs heavier and in their third set of harnesses and collars. They’ll be around 100 lbs each when they’re full grown.

Too expensive, and dangerous. They are too thin and easy for medium to large dogs to swallow!
Too expensive! The 5 ounce box for $11.50 only has 6 chews in the box making them $1.92 each and the directions say 1-2 chews per day. Too expensive for a 2x5 inch flat piece of rawhide. She chewed it for 7 minutes until it was soft enough to chew it in half and swallow whole, which is so dangerous! ☹️

Love these
These dental chews were recommended by our vet for our puppy during her terrible teething period. Prior to 6/7 months old, these lasted her so long and were incredibly effective for her during teething. Once she was about 6.5 months old (she’s now 7 months), I noticed that they didn’t last long anymore. This is to be expected though as puppy teeth are replaced with the adult teeth and they are stronger chewers. However, I have noticed she’s becoming more of an aggressive chewer. Not all dogs are, so the duration of how long they will last depends on your dog. The size of each chew varied, but none were too small. Our puppy enjoyed the taste and continued to chew them after the flavor was gone. At the young puppy stage, it was more of a value for the money for me. But, since she loves these so much, to have as a treat every so often at this point, these are still a winner for me. I’d recommend based on the vet recommendation I received and the good experience I’ve had with them.
