This DVD is a simple but excellent introduction to carving a portrait head, with expert guidance at every stage. The disk includes plan drawings, still photographs and 45 minutes of step-by-step video instruction.

NOT SUITED FOR A BEGINNER IN WOOD CARVING
The video starts with the basic cutting of the profile of the face already done without showing or telling how it was done. There is no mention of tracing your pattern on the wood or using the saw to cut away the wood to get the basic shape where you would then start to carve. Next you are told what should be done next. Then you are shown that task completed without showing how it is accomplished. You are next told what needs to be done next. Then you are shown that task completed without showing how it is accomplished. This goes on until a completed head is shown. Tools are mentioned but not shown. NOTHING ON THIS VIDEO ANSWERS ANY QUESTIONS THAT A BEGINNER WOULD NEED ANSWERED TO GET STARTED.

shows pretty much nothing
Agree whole heartedly with previous review, this teaches you nothing, shows pretty much nothing, and is completely worthless, would not recommend anything from Ian Norbury his DVDs are a complete waste of time and money, I am usually a very positive reviewer and give five stars easily but I am really sorry I bought this. As before mentioned all he really does in his DVDs is show you a clip of the wood with pencil lines on it to show where he's going to take a piece off then the next clip you see the wood has been taken off, you never see him do it, how it's done, what tools are used and how, nothing of any particular value, so very, deeply unimpressed!!!
