AMAZING MOVIE!
I love this film. It is amazing. Very heartfelt, based on a true story and such a tear jerker. If you want a movie with a solid plot, amazing actors and a story to get you drawn in! This is it

Based on true events.
There is honoring the dead and idolising the dead , you honor the dead with the truth however unpleasant or difficult. The film in the end doesn't make it clear that the Granite Mountain Hotshots left an area in the black, an already burned safe area and took a huge risk moving through a heavily vegetated box canyon. They lost line of sight with the fire and did not post lookouts after Brendan McDonough had to leave his lookout position. The crew needed to travel down through the canyon to a ranch when the fire was around a mile or two away they thought they had time but seriously misjudged the terrain, weather and the time they had, they didn't get half way there before downdrafts from a thunderstorm changed the direction and speed of the fire.In the film all of them die hunkered under fire shelters in reality only five were found in their shelters. The film skirts the culture of firefighters the fact that the crew felt a need and pressure to prove themselves, to be on the line and to engage the fire, and that attitude led to mistakes and errors in judgement and they broke key rules and protocols. The film actually goes into some of those:Knowing weather conditions and the effect those weather conditions can or may have on the fire.knowing what the fire is doing at all times, basing all actions on current and expected fire behavior.Identifying escape routes. Not having line of sight to the fire or posting lookouts and not being in communication with anyone who can see the fire.Unfortunately with some jobs the rules are there to stop you from dying. As with numerous other 'American heroes' films the rules here are made up by short sighted people or old men who have 'lost the edge' and aren't willing to 'take a risk for the big win' sadly this American cultural attitude in service has cost lives, and is still costing lives and this film perpetuates the myth.

Watch till the end and you'll understand their story
I'd never heard of the Granite Mountain hotshots before, and living in the UK I know nothing about the realities of wildfires. I watched this film based on reviews, the actors and that it was based on true events. This film isn't a fast paced action film, it focuses on developing the characters and their relationships as well as (for me anyway) - introducing you to the everyday realities, strategies and tools these teams use to monitor and slow the course of a wildfire, its also quite shocking to see power politics involved too.If you don't know their story I won't spoil it here, but I will say I was hit like a sledgehammer with what happened - I was almost too stunned to cry. There are also some interesting critical articles and videos worth reading after watching this movie on the internet, from families and professionals. I felt the film also makes you realise the devastating power of wildfires, just how fast they can suddenly change course and gather in terrifying speed like a wave and there's no way a human can outrun its path, its going 10-20 mph. The most an average human can make is 5.9 mph.

You have to pay and it's not worth it at all!
It's a film that starts well, but then becomes boring and only at the end does it have some emotion again.

5 stars on many levels
For the first 30 minutes I was not that into it, but I gave it a chance, and there are so many important messages in this film and it is gripping in the way it is filmed. If this was a book people would pick it apart for lifetimes. It is an excellent film, well worth a watch, but you have to pay attention. This is a Saturday night film. You have to be open to your emotions too, if your closed off to that then you won't appreciate it for what it is - A masterpiece of the human experience.
