The Fritz!Box 7390 Wired/Wireless Modem Router is a star performer!
The AVM Fritz!Box 7390 Wired/Wireless Gigabit Voip-enabled Modem Router is indeed a star performer! It is just what I have been looking for since I had the notion to combine my broadband connection, my home telephones, my business Voip line and my Fax line into a sleek and efficient, professional setup. The Fritz!Box 7390 does all of this with great efficiency and a lot less hardware than trying to cover all my requirements with separate hardware and software. I purchased this modem router together with three Fritz! Fon MT-F phones plus a Fritz!WLAN Repeater 300E to extend the coverage of the wireless setup and together these products have produced an excellent, high-quality setup that works flawlessly so far.Together these items make a very sophisticated setup which does much more than most other gigabit modem router/voip telephone products. I have two of the Fritz! Fon MT-F Phones set up for my landline (one serves upstairs and one serves downstairs) and the third Fritz! Fon is configured on my business VOIP line. Setup of the Fritz!Box was straightforward although I had to go through the reset password procedure because my computer could not see it at first. I think that a password had been set previously for some reason (which of course I didn't know about as the product was purchased as a new item, not secondhand, and I wasn't expecting it to have had a password set at all) and that was why I couldn't get into the setup menu at first. Once I had gone through the reset password procedure I was able to continue the setup process unhindered. The linking of the phones was very straightforward with no problems at all. Instructions were perfectly clear and the process continued automatically without a hitch. I have reviewed the phones separately so won't duplicate my comments here. The Fritz! Box 7390 interface is so comprehensive and is used to configure everything you want from the modem router and the telephones or fax that you may choose to connect to it. It reports on everything that happens like full details of the telephone calls that are made from any of the lines, the connect times, connection speed, who is online etc. etc., The Fritz!Box 7390 does so much and allows you to configure so much (including ring tones and line allocation for voip, fax or BT etc.,) that it should serve pretty well everyone's needs. After much searching, the Fritz! box 7390 modem router with the Fritz! Fon telephones have provided the answer to my long search for consolidation! Software/firmware updates are provided by the manufacturer and these will update automatically once you start the process. Excellent, well thought-out products plus the usual excellent service from Amazon.

Potential to be a great router, but !!!! ............
I went overdrawn at my bank, to buy this top of the range Fritz 7390 router. I already had, the eairler Fritz 7140 VOIP router, and was delighted with that, so, this new all singing all dancing router seemed just the job.Well, it arrived, I was all excited, a new toy! However, when set up (it does this automatically if your ISP supports it, mine did) but, the download speed was appauling, I was previously getting around 6.6Mbs, with this 'new' router, harldy 1Mbs, terrible. I did factory reset, checked every detail, still only around 1Mbs, same even after a full manual setup. So, I rang AVM Fritz at their Netherlands office, spoke to a guy, oh he said, try this new 'lab' firmware, and, give me a link in an email, I updated the firmware in the router to this new 'lab' version firmware, still the same, very poor down and up speeds, how frustrating! My next telephone call was to the AVM Fritz Germany head office number, the same guy was on the phone as the Netherlands number Hmmmm!! At this point, he was extremely unhelpful, not wanting to discuss this, but, wanting me to detail events in emails, with screen shots, no doubt wanting to start a long and probably non productive string of emails, probably lasting months and, getting nowhere in the end.I interupted him, saying, this was a brand new device, advertised as suitable for all international ISPs with Annex A or Annex B, regardless, so, it wasn't fit for the purpose, he give me the opinion, he didn't really care, needless to say, I was annoyed, as this attitude has been pointed out by other people contacting AVM Fritz technical support over router modem matters.I use O2 as my ISP, it's ADSL2+ Annex A, which this Fritz box 7390 is supposed to support, if you are with O2, ADSL2+ like me, you will probably experience poor speeds too, if another ISP, you might be lucky and it work OK?Amazon have been so helpful in this matter, they even sent another new router out, in case the first one was faulty, that's trust, I like that. The situtaion is now, I had to return it for a refund, a real shame, I would really have liked to have kept this router, it has tons of features I could use, but, alas, after sales from AVM Fritz, was extremely poor, in fact terrible, I tend to judge a company, on how good they are if you experience a problem with their equipment, AVM scored extremely low on this occasion.

Nice concept - seriously flawed execution.
In principle if you're looking for an all-in-one voice and data gateway then the 7390 looks like a great, if expensive, product. However, it falls short in so many areas. The range of the wireless network and the Dect signal is poor. Walk more than a few meters from the base station with a fritzFon and the signal starts breaking up. Volume levels on the handset are low to inaudible - even on different makes of handset with the volume turned up to max and the gain on the FritzBox set to max as well. I bought the device to filter out unwanted calls but it doesn't reliably detect the incoming number so rule based call filtering won't work reliably if at all. Google this as it's a common complaint and the AVM team aren't that interested in helping to resolve it. Apparently ISDN is the norm in Germany and that presents the number differently. Although there are multiple answering machines you can't have a delay in answering except for the primary rule. Everything else gets answered by the answering machine instantly. As an ADSL/VDSL router it's good - but then you can get better single function devices for a lot less money so why bother?

Superb
This is one incredible and very clever piece of kit.It was very easy to set up and had lots of features to please and to make set up easy, for example scanning to find a channel that is not being used by neighbours routers etc.The signal is strong and there are have been no timeouts or dropped connections so far.The voicemail is wonderful, and email with an audio file is sent to your email, so when I am out and about my voicemail messages are there in my emails. All in all this is a wonderful piece of kit, which has so far exceeded expectations.Thoroughly recommended.
