Works well
This, together with a test tube, is all you need to test CYA. It is the genuine article. I tested twice already with this chemical and it is very accurate.

Required for CYA testing
I have been fortunate to always receive a bottle with an long out expiration date, usually a year or two out. For testing my CYA with the Taylor kit, I stand with my back to the sun, have the comparator at waist level, and glance somewhat quicky intermittently at the black dot instead of focusing on it. When I don't see the black dot after a quick glance, then I go with that CYA number. If you partially drain your pool to refill and lower CYA, try to wait a couple days with the fresh water and then test CYA before adding any. You might not need to add any CYA.

Save money: Don't test your CYA (stabilizer) too often
QUICK SUMMARY: If you're shopping for this product, you already know a thing or two about testing your swimming pool water. This larger bottle is necessary because the smaller, 0.75oz bottles are only good for just a few tests. You may get 10 tests or so with this larger bottle.DID YOU KNOW?Performing the CYA (stabilizer) test can be difficult because it's sometimes hard to discern exactly at what point the black dot at the bottom of the test tube has completely vanished. But did you know that you can re-run the CYA test over and over using the same test water mixed with this reagent? All you need to do is pour back the contents that are in the test tube back into the bottle you used to mix your water sample with this reagent. Shake, then re-pour the same water back into the CYA test tube to take another reading.Run the test a few times and take an average result, if you'd like, and then assume that average is your CYA level. Also, did you know that cyanuric acid will stay in your pool indefinitely? Unlike other chemicals in your pool, cyanuric acid doesn't get consumed or used up. It stays in your pool, acting like suntan lotion for your chlorine. The only way your CYA level will go down is through splash-out and backwashing.Because of that, you don't need to test your CYA levels very often. They won't change much (unless you use stabilized chlorine pucks, which add stablizer to your pool). You may want to do it just once a month or every other month. So, a 2 oz bottle or reagent like this product should last you a very long time -- at least through one full swimming season.Enjoy your pool!
