I LOVE This Palette- Professional Quality Paint For Most Colors
I have been a watercolor artist for quite a few years now. I have used some of the best of the best from Winsor Newton, Daniel Smith, Sennelier, and M Graham (and many more) to more budget friendly watercolors from various companies of student or pro types. My favorite paints tend to be tube, but I also will enjoy using some pan paints too.HOW THIS COMESThis comes in a beautiful presentation box wrapped in pink sueded cloth. It is a beautiful colored outside with pink to match the box. There is a really cool watercolor paper that is printed so you can swatch the colors. What I love is that the paper is their glitter watercolor paper. It is hard to catch on camera, but it looks really cool through the paint.PAINTSThese paints need to be unwrapped individually. This takes some time. Don't plant to use these right away. You will need a day or two to unwrap them all. Sometimes the paint will stick to the paper, but not too often.ACTIVATIONIt does not take more than a little water to make these paints come to life.PIGMENTATIONThese paints are PIGMENTED. They are beautifully intense and the colors are vibrant and true to what I expected for most of the colors. They behave like most professional watercolor paints that I like to use.GRANULATIONI love granulating paints. I love the textures and fun things that granulation can do. These paints play well with water and granulate or form strands of color beautifully when the conditions are right.LIFTSome of the colors lift better than others. That is pretty typical of most watercolor brands at all levels.MIXINGThe colors in this set mix pretty well for the most part. They don't get muddy easily and don't seem to have the fillers that many brands do.THE BOTTOM LINEI am in love with this palette. It is one of the nicest ones I have. It is truly flexible to give me a more professional look if I want to than many other palettes with pans in them.MY RATINGFIVE STARS. I am really thrilled with this palette. It is much nicer than I expected. I have enjoyed many of Paul Rubens different types of art tools. This is one of the nicest I have used from them. If you are wanting to do more high quality work or just practice using professional level paints, this is a great palette to get.

Great quality paints
Here’s a rephrased version:I own several sets of Paul Rubens watercolors, and this one continues to meet the high-quality standard I’ve come to expect from their paints. The colors are vibrant, with some offering slight granulation, which I use to add texture to my work. The paints activate easily, are creamy, and have a nice level of transparency. The palette’s lid and flap provide plenty of mixing space, and they don’t stain. The included microfiber cloth is perfect for absorbing excess water from the brush or for cleaning and drying them. The packaging and box design is gorgeous. What I love most about this set is the pigment dispersion. As soon as the paint touches the wet surface of the paper, it spreads beautifully, which is exactly the effect I want. I’m not a fan of pigments that just stay where they’re applied. One minor issue is that the swatch card doesn’t have the color names in English. While the pigment names are listed, which can help if you’re familiar with them, beginners might struggle once the wrappers around the pans are removed unless they can read Chinese. Despite this, I’m still giving it 5 stars for the overall quality.

What did I really purchase?
I had read various reviews about possible sales of Paul Rebens having issues with color fastness. I purchased several sets of Paul Rubens before and was delighted in their performance. Not this time. This set is not a keeper. I will return in for a refund.

Overall, meh…
Individual color pans are VERY small and fit so close together there’s no way to not drag color over into next color. Colors do seem concentrated. Palette is nothing special, 2 sides, but one doesn’t lie flat. Instructions are all in Japanese! DIY color chart is provided for you to dab each color on, but is not setup to follow the order of pans in the set. I arranged them to follow the predesigned color chart, but getting them out was difficult and tedious. Wouldn’t buy again.

Amazing colours; most are single pigment!
This 48 set of watercolour paints from Paul Rubens is one of the best professional watercolour experiences I've had in a long time. Most of these paints are single pigment which means they blend perfectly with each other without causing a muddy mess on the paper. Please keep in mind that the cadmium shades are made with real cadmium so I recommend highly that you wash your hands thoroughly and use a designated paint cup for this set as cadmium is highly toxic if ingested. This set comes with a swatch card, a shammy, the tin, and 48 individually wrapped half-pans of watercolour with pigment information. I was able to scrub and lift these paints with incredible granulation and the paint itself performed beautifully with how it blooms. I love how it handles and blends. :)I think overall, this is an amazing value as the half-pans were filled to the very top. They're high quality and blend with bold vibrant colours without feeling muddy. Paints like these compare to more expensive brands and the lightfast rating is very high. I'd recommend these for professional work and personal work alike.

Uneven surface and inconsistent pigment quantity
Although the paint set includes 48 colors, some of the cubes have uneven surfaces, and in several cases, there are noticeable gaps between the pigment and the container. This suggests that some colors contain less pigment than others.
