The SmartThings Water Leak Sensor can monitor moisture to send you alerts that could prevent a leak from becoming a flood. It can also monitor temperature. It requires the SmartThings Hub.

So far, we had one water leak, and the sensor did not detect it even though it was submerged.

So far, so good! ... Scratch that. It failed us big time!
These are working great for us so far! We've had them in place for about 6-8 weeks, one at our hot water heater and one at a sewage ejection pump in our basement. They paired very easily with my Samsung Smartthings hub. I tested both with an intentional spill of water, and they triggered quickly and effectively. They have not gone offline from my hub as I've read from other reviews. I'll update later if we encounter any issues with these.Update 11/2017 ... We've had two of these sensors for a little over a year. Recently, the one under our hot water heater ran out of battery. I haven't replaced the battery yet ... that's on me. But we also have one next to our basement sewer pump. I found water pouring onto our basement from an overflowing toilet. (Thank you, Jesus, that it was clean water and not sewage!) The sensor did not go off, even though it was submerged in an inch of water. The toilet had probably been overflowing for almost an hour. I just checked my Smartthings app, and it shows that the sensor is online, has 66% battery, and has "no recent events". FAIL!

What's worse is the SmartThings app says "Everything OK" when it ...
I have two of these sensors and they just stop communicating with the SmartThings Hub and have to be manually reset by holding down the reset button. What's worse is the SmartThings app says "Everything OK" when it isn't even getting sensor data. I'm guessing when I actually have a leak I won't even know because the senor will have stopped communicating and I won't even know. I have opened a ticket and will update this review based on the response to the ticket.

Fine water sensor, bad connection reliability on zigbee mesh network.
I bought three of these -- they're fairly easy to pair, and detector water quickly (when they're connected to the SmartThings hub). But they don't reliably stay connected to the hub. At first I blamed this on old batteries, but even with fresh batteries some of them seem to randomly drop from the mesh network (even one a neighbor 10 feet away works fine). If I bring them up to the hub and repair them I can get them back, but the dropping is a real concern. The one time I actually had a water issue, the sensor had recently dropped off the network so I didn't get a flood alert. Luckily I found the leak in time the old fashioned way, but it completely ruins the point of these, and I cannot trust them. Another perplexing thing about these is that they are not fully waterproof. The bottom is, so if they are in a thin puddle of water they will be fine. But if you submerge them completely it seems likely that the electronics will get wet and probably ruined, which is a bizarre design for a water sensor.I've since purchased an Ecolink sensor (FLF-ZWAVE5-ECO) to use instead of these Samsung sensors. I miss having the temperature and humidity sensors from the Samsung sensors, but the Ecolink seems to more reliably stay connected. It's bizarre that with a Samsung hub, the Ecolink connects better than the Samsung sensors, but that's my experience so far.If the connection issues were resolved so I could trust these things, I would probably bump this up to a 4-star rating, but as it stands I'd look for something else.

Reliable, Good Battery Life, Show Temp too!
Have been using two of these for several months. It takes just a few seconds from when moisture touches the two wire sensors on the bottom of it until you get a signal. The sensor is really two metal wires on bottom that you set on the floor. When water touches it and changes the electrical flow and sends an alarm. After 3 months, they are 77% battery yet -- so very reasonable battery life. I've placed them on a concrete floor. In other moisture sensors I've had, the two wires will start to corrode over time (1-2 years) and you start to get false alarms. No signs of this or false alarms after a few months. One other neat feature of most SmartThings sensors, including the moisture sensor, is it also provides temperature. You can not set an alarm on a temperature with it , but you can monitor temperature manually via SmartThings app. So I use this sensor to monitor the room temperature where they are installed (basement) as well.

Connection issues long term.
Love the concept, like the size and all, the problem is the stupid thing keeps loosing connection. I have to reset it every month or so.Needs a firmware update that they havent yet come out with.

Four Stars
Occasionally loses connection with the hub and I have to start from scratch to reconnect it.
