Bayer Crop Science 701515A Gallon Concentrate Insect Control

I'm a veteran horticulturalist, and a dedicated professional organic gardener.Unfortunately, there are instances where we are FORCED to use chemicals when certain pest problems are out of control and cant be controlled by natural means.Imidicloprid is basically a synthetic nicotine, and very safe to use if applied properly. I used this product to get an explosion of mealybugs and scale under control, that the last person with my position as head-gardener on a noteworthy private estate did not deal with. They were literally out of control!I used this product as a soil drench on all the container-grown plants in the greenhouses, at the proper rate of dilution in tepid water.I also used it as a "bath" which I literally submerged a LARGE orchid collection, one by one, making sure that EVERY part of the plant was wet... soil... leaves... even flower buds and OPEN FLOWERS! Not one single leaf, bud or open flower was harmed or burned!In only ONE application, I'm happy to report that the scale and mealys were completely... and I mean COMPLETELY... eradicated!And this was done without harming ONE SINGLE NON-TARGET bug.I hate to say it, but this is a REALLY GREAT product when you have no organic alternative!

As otherwise noted, this concentration of this chemical is now available from other manufacturers at a better price. It still seems like it costs a lot but it is the only thing that will protect my ash trees from the emerald ash borer that is easy to apply. See the video. Mix it up in a bucket according to the size of the tree, pour it close to the trunk, and DONE for the year. Gets rid of sooty mold too, by getting rid of the underlying cause. I didn't give it five stars because of the Bayer price and because it is a systemic insecticide, killing the beneficial with the bad. But to save a tree, sometimes you just have to do it.

Expensive but an outstanding systemic fertilizer that kill off leaf eating insects

Bought the concentrate II version as it was supposed to kill the Gypsy moth caterpillars that killed two of our Himalayan birch trees last year. Lot's of caterpillars making a meal of the leaves on our 3rd Himalayan birch tree.

After reading the label this has 1.47% of the Merit formula and the Bonide Tree an Shrub has 1.47 of the same active Ingredient. Imidacloprid for 43.00 a gallon. Why is Bayer Ripping us off? The price got jacked up 33% in 2011. That is when I started Reading labels CAREFULLY and switched..The Bonide Tree and shrub is available at amazon, cant put the link up to it in this review but seek and ye shall find. It works just as good as the Bayer original formula. Now the Bayer Landscapers Formula is a stronger formula but it is also $155~160 a gallon too..Note update: I found out that the active ingredient in this product went off patent protection in 2009. Perhaps other companies will start making this offering us a cheaper alternative to the consumer in the future.

I have used the Merit based Bayer Advanced tree and shrub insecticide for 4 years with great results. This particular product is 1/2 the strength as compared to what I am used to and the description/label here at Amazon does not reveal that... unless I am missing something.I never use this product on bee friendly flowering shrubs. Studies which can be found (google Imidacloprid - chemical = Merit and bees) MERIT AND OTHER CHEMICALS MAY BE THE CAUSE OF OUR DECLINE IN THE BEE POPULATION.

I used the Bayer 701515A Tree And Shrub Care on my ficus shrubs that were infested with white fly. The product got rid of my insect problem and now my shrubs are growing back in perfect form. Thank you Bayer!!!

It's too early to tell with this specific bottle, but I have used this product in the past and it is the most effective systemic for evergreens that I have found in 25 years.
