The soles are firm. These are the best flip flops I've ever had. This is my second pair. I bought the first pair 5 years ago at a yard sale and I just replaced them this year.

Hi ! Yes, the material they use is called Croslite and doesn't include latex. Happy Holidays !

They run pretty true to size and I believe 38/39 would be anywhere from a 7 or 7.5 women's. Since these are unisex, those should work for your son. Hope that helps!
